Mining Memories - Knutefjell & Haus Sachsen, Kongsberg, Norway
AIRVŪZ STAFF NOTE :
Check out this beautiful drone video from the heart of the old silver mining region of Norway, compliments of AirVuz contributor ToB Creations. The video includes footage of the Knutefjell forest area west of Konsberg as well as the Haus Sachsen mine. The discovery of silver in what is now the County of Buskerud in the early 17th century ushered in a 300+ year period of intensive mining, during which time nearly half a billion ounces of the metal were extracted and the Kongsberg area became one of the wealthiest in Europe.

A beautiful day in late winter - early spring in the hills above Kongsberg in Norway. The mountainous area is called Knutefjell, with Jonsknuten as the highest peak. This is a very popular hiking and skiing area, but it's also an area with 400 years of silver mining history. All around you can see mines and structures built in connection with the mining operations. At its peak the mining company, Kongsberg Sølvverk, had about 4000 employees and around 1770 Kongsberg was Norway's second largest town after Bergen. We also take a spin around Haus Sachsen, a mine with a very well preserved building environment from the 1860's and 70's. Hope you'll enjoy it! 😊
