Minnewaska State Park is a popular attraction in the Catskill Mountains of Upstate New York, which are part of the great Appalachian chain. It's a roughly 90 square km (around 30 square mi.) preserve in Ulster County, not far from the state capital of Albany. The park was formed after the state of New York bought the land from a private owner in the 1980's. It was further expanded in the mid-1990's.
