In the year 1904, the Guaibense Hydraulics was built by the private company of the same name, which collected water from Lake Guaíba and distributed it, without any treatment, to the population of the city. (Who knows it was very good at that time ...)
In 1927, a U.S. company, Ulen and Company, began erecting the existing Hydraulics building, officially inaugurated the following year by then-Mayor Alberto Bins. Of architecture inspired in the Palace of Versailles and in its gardens, the building occupies a land of six hectares and has eclectic positivist traits. (? ...). Behind it, the station tanks are located.
The great hydraulic tower was deactivated in 1969 and, for a long time, its water tank was able to supply the large buildings of the central area of Porto Alegre.
The Moinhos de Vento Water Treatment Station promotes actions aimed at the environmental education of the Porto Alegre population, stimulating responsible practices in relation to the environment and the city, with emphasis on water issues.
