We finally got to fly again after almost 3 weeks of snow, cold and workworkwork. Two new builds we have put to the test: 1. Alien 4.5 with Steele motors on HQ543 V1 and 2. Alien 5 with F60/2450 on RK5051. READ MORE BELOW!!
Ok, so what conclusions can be drawn?
First off, the Steele motors run smooth af, seriously silk smooth to be exact. No need for soft mounts haha. If your quad has oscillations and you run Steele motors your problem is coming from anywhere else but the motors - guaranteed. The Steele's also deliver their thrust way more quiet than the F60 (just a subjective perception) and they do their job just perfect without sagging your lipo. Biggest difference to the F60 - low end / mid torque feels more responsive because they have less rotating mass to spin. Top end is sufficient for ANY freestyle flying. On the A4.5 with HQ543 V1s this motor is just a dream, feels great and is endless fun. Few complain about crash resistance and C-clips falling off - well I didn't have a crash with them yet so I can't give you an opinion on that. :)
The real deal of the F60 clearly is its performance in the top end because of their higher kV and the bigger stator. It's a screamer too and yea, we like that! The RK5051 is the prop you wanna take for these motors. This combo is seriously just an amazing setup. Thrust delivery is absolutely nuts. You can get a sense when watching the full throttle punch out in the beginning of the video. The flip side of having high pitch on the blades is that you need higher rpm before the RK will produce similar grip, compared to HQ543. This in combination with the (little) less responsive low end rpm delivery of the F60 (because of their higher rotating mass) is something you will notice especially when doing quick turns or while flying fast and tight curves. However, for big air freestyle THIS is the setup to go. In case you use bigger ESCs (able to handle 35A+) you might want to give the HQ544 a shot because this is the prop where the F60 really shines. I have tested them once and can confirm that - tho at the cost of a killed Kiss ESC. Oh, and be sure to put lipos with high C rating on your quad in order to have the juice available whenever the F60 is asking for it. :)
Finally - Alien 4.5 vs 5? Less than 20g saved! Only. Smaller top and bottom plate (note the bottom plate for the Alien 4 is only 1.5mm!), different camera mounts and smaller standoff's. You'll definitely notice the smaller body which seems more agile in certain manoeuvres plus it looks way cooler imo but at the end it's more of a personal taste decision which frame you prefer.
