South Barito Regency was established on September 21, 1959 based on Law No. 27 of 1959, concerning the Establishment of Level II Regions in Kalimantan. One of the districts in Central Kalimantan Province is astronomically located at 1 degree 20 minutes North Latitude to 2 degrees 35 minutes North Latitude and 114 degrees East Longitude to 115 degrees East Longitude. Since the division of East Barito Regency from South Barito Regency based on RI Law Number 5 of 2002, the area of South Barito Regency has grown from 12,664 Km² to 7.20.9 Km² or 5.75% of the area of Central Kalimantan Province. Regional Administrative Boundary of South Barito Regency, the northern region is bordered by North Barito Regency, the eastern region is bordered by East Barito Regency and Batola Regency, South Kalimantan Province, the southern region is bordered by Hulu Sungai Utara Regency and Barito Kuala Regency, South Kalimantan Province, the western region borders Kapuas Regency . In 2006, in the context of equitable distribution and acceleration of development at the rural level, in accordance with the aspirations that developed in the community to organize government administration areas, the Regent of South Barito issued a Regent Decree Number 6 of 2006, 16 January 2006 concerning the Improvement of the Status of the Hamlet and Ex. The Transmigration Settlement Unit has become the Definitive Village in South Barito District. Thus, the Administrative Region of South Barito Regency has now become 6 Districts, 7 Kelurahan, 86 Villages and 13 Hamlets. The capital of South Barito Regency is located in Buntok, which is located along the Barito River. Demographically, the population in South Barito Regency in 2019 was 136,267 people. The majority of the people of South Barito Regency are the Dayak Tribe and consist of several sub-tribes, including the Ngaju Dayak Tribe, the Bakumpai Dayak Tribe, the Maanyan Dayak Tribe, the Lawangan Dayak Tribe, the Dusun Dayak Tribe and the Bawo Dayak Tribe. In South Barito Regency, there are parks that have become an icon of pride for its residents, namely Taman Iring Witu and Taman Rusa which are located in Buntok City, Iring Witu is taken from the Dayak Dusun Witu Ma'ai and Dayak Ma'anyan which means Tepian Barito. That is the general description of South Barito Regency in 2020 with the motto Dahani Dahanai Tuntung Tulus Selamat Sentosa Adil Makmur forever.
