Discover the Artaix Canal Bridge, a fascinating engineering structure located in the Saône-et-Loire department of the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté region. The 56-km-long Roanne-Digoin Canal was built between 1832 and 1838. To cross the depression in the land corresponding to the bed of the Arcon River, a 300-meter-long and sufficiently high (up to 12 meters) earthwork was built to ensure the canal's continuity. It thus allowed barges to cross the small valley. The bridge was built following the collapse of this embankment, which emptied the entire canal during the night of February 2-3, 1933.
