The Living Breath of Aloha
AIRVŪZ STAFF NOTE :
The "Big Island" of Hawaii was formed via five separate volcanoes, of which two (Mauna Loa and Kilauea) remain active. Kīlauea, on the southeastern part of the island, is the more active. Less than 300k years old, the shield volcano erupted more or less continuously from 1983 to 2018, explosively so in mid-2018. In this stunning drone video by Hawaii Aerial Visions, you'll get an aerial view of the crack known as Fissure 8, which was the source of some of the most destructive lava emissions during the 2018 eruptions.

My entry for the HawaiiCon 2020 Drone Film Festival (Placed First... honoured). The theme was "Living Breath of Aloha" My sub title was "Beauty in the Aftermath" Video starts off with just a heart beat... then reveals Fissure 8 and takes off towards it... looking like an old vintage film (wanted to imply a surreal feeling to it) then it slowly morphs to video as it approaches Fissure 8... then you begin to hear Pele's breath and heartbeat. We circle to the side of F8 through the sunset... each time she approaches F8 you can hear Pele's breath. Until finally she comes home and begins to land... among dead trees and destruction and the scene changes to B/W to emphasize the apocalyptic mess... As we descend you hear the coquis (tree frogs) getting louder and louder - their ubiquitous presence is everywhere in Puna. Hope you like it... this is also my tribute to Pele who spared my home (I'm just 1/2 mile from this)
