It is a violation of federal law to shoot a drone. Penalties may include significant fines, and up to 20 years in prison. You can see the law here: https://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/te... Incredibly, the US Attorney in South Carolina is refusing to prosecute a case involving at least five people who conspired to shoot four drones. Three drones were hit, and one crashed. The drones were video documenting a cruel live pigeon shoot at the Broxton Bridge Plantation, which is owned by the Varn family - which is very wealthy and politically connected. Overwhelming evidence includes a police report from the Colleton County Sheriff's Office (all links provided below), and findings from the investigator for the sheriff. SHARK also recorded the conspirators' radio traffic, and the US Attorney has that file. The conspirators were filmed both on the ground and from the air. A police body camera recorded owner Jerry Varn admitting to the shoot down efforts. The evidence in this case is overwhelming and irrefutable, and yet, the US Attorney has declined to prosecute. To all drone pilots who think the law will protect them and their aircraft from thugs, the US Attorney is proving that belief is false.
