Vienna's 21km Man-Made Island - Donauinsel

Vienna built this island by hand. Fly over the Donauinsel in 4K - a 21-kilometre strip of land dug out of the Danube between 1972 and 1988 to stop the river from flooding the city, and now the place all of Vienna goes to swim, cycle and escape the summer heat.

This cinematic drone flight glides past sunlit riverside beaches, the sleek towers of the UNO-City skyline, the Copa Beach promenade and the endless tree-lined shores that make this the city's favourite recreational escape. Stretching 21.1 km yet only a few hundred metres wide, the island splits the Danube from the Neue Donau and reveals Vienna from an angle few people ever see.

It is also home to the Donauinselfest - the largest free open-air music festival in the world, drawing around three million visitors across three days every June since 1984.
