Vilnius, Lithuania, summer

AIRVŪZ STAFF NOTE :

Here's a stunning aerial view of the Lithuanian capital city of Vilnius, compliments of contributor ziggy.  Dating to the 13th century, this interior city was the capital of the great Duchy of Lithuania.  Savaged by war and plague in the 17th century, it fell into further decline under the Russian Empire, and its huge Jewish population was massacred by the Nazi's during World War II.  The magnificently well-preserved city has blossomed since Lithuania became independent at the end of the Cold War.
