The local community of Walenstadtberg lies above Walenstadt. The "Berger" already belonged to Walenstadt in the Middle Ages, although they were inferior citizens of Walenstadt and were at a disadvantage compared to the townspeople. Many of the meadows, forests and alps of Walenstadtberg could only be used by local citizens at that time, a large part of which was shared by the townspeople. Due to this sharing and taking, disputes broke out again and again between the local communities until on 29 February 1814, Walenstadtberg citizens officially received the same rights and duties as Walenstadt citizens.
