The wooden tower is 37 metres high, 8.5 metres wide and was inaugurated in spring 2010. Four massive supporting Douglas fir trunks form the main framework. The construction weighs around 100 tonnes. Another 150 tonnes were used for the concrete foundation.

Around 1650, the Zurich lordship had one of a total of 23 high sentinels built in the canton of Zurich on the hill above Wildensbuch. The high sentinels served as an alarm system. Within 15 minutes, all 23 Hochwachten could transmit a signal. The best-known Zurich high sentinels were located on the Lägern, the Irchel and the Uetliberg. In 1870, the Hochwachten system was used for the last time during the Franco-Prussian War.
