The Calanques of Piana are a geological formation of plutonic rocks forming part of the group called "Crystalline Corsica" with magmatic rocks, west of the line from Calvi to Solenzara. The translation of calanche into calanques is unfortunate because there is no analogy between the relief of Piana and that of the calanques of Marseille; the use, in French, of the word Corsican is preferable.
