Drone crashes in very strong winds.

The message from this video is not to exceed your drones wind capability.

After a short walk up to the Yellow Pinch Lookout we were greeted with 20 to 25mph winds and gusts up to 35mph. The Evo 2 Pro handled these winds with ease, however a very strong wind gust overpowered the Autel Lite, with it tumbling and crashing into the valley below.

This video shows the windy conditions when the drone crashed, and our efforts to recover this drone in the deadly snake infested valley below. There is no footage of the drone falling out of the sky.

Unfortunately after 2 days of searching in rugged terrain with very thick vegetation/undergrowth, we were unable to locate the crashed drone. A replacement drone has been ordered and I shall receive it prior to new years.

It is perfectly legal to fly drones in Queensland National Parks, as long as CASA rules are applied. Commercial flyers require a permit.

Yellow Pinch Lookout -

After a 20 to 30 minute uphill walk from the Yellow Pinch carpark, you’ll arrive at the top of the 391 metre Yellow Pinch lookout, and when the clouds are behaving, you are greeted with an incredible view of Mt Barney’s East Face. The views from Yellow Pinch lookout don’t come without effort. The short hike up to the lookout is steep. It will test your cardio and warm up your legs. But if you’re used to scrambling, you won’t find it hard. If you want to get a taste of Mt Barney without the 7-10 hour hike to its peak, this is the best option for you.

Mount Barney National Park -

Mount Barney, Mount Maroon, Mount May and Mount Lindesay form part of the Mount Barney National Park. These rugged peaks are the remains of the ancient Focal Peak Shield Volcano which erupted 24 million years ago. Mount Barney (1359 metres) is the second-highest peak in south-east Queensland and has some very rare and unique plants. Rathdowney is the closest small town, 15 km to the northeast.

Drone footage shot in 4K, HDR, 30fps by Autel Lite+.

Other drones featured are the Evo 2 Pro & Mavic 3 Pro.

A big thanks go out to Edwin Mens & Francisco Kratschmer for their assistance is searching for this lost drone.

Edwin has enormous experience walking/climbing in these environments. Edwin climbs the peaks of the Glasshouse Mountains on almost a daily basis & is a member of their local volunteer search & rescue team.
