AIRVŪZ STAFF NOTE : AirVuz contributor and drone pilot Pettys brings us this excellent drone video of Točník Castle, a well-known landmark in the Czech Republic. It's situated in the Central Bohemian Region, an area in the western part of the country which surrounds Prague. Built in the 14th century on the orders of the Bohemian King Wenceslaus IV, the castle played a key role in the civil war which broke out following the execution of (pre-Protestant) Christian reformer Jan Hus in 1415 and which ravaged Czech lands for almost two decades.

Royal castle from the end of the 14th century, built by order of King Wenceslas IV. The castle is first mentioned in 1398. And from the very beginning it was designed as a representative, architecturally very advanced building. After renaissance modifications made by the lords of Vartemberk and the lords of Lobkovice, it was used until the Thirty Years' War, during which it was abandoned. Only the former royal palace was still well maintained, whose representation hall was converted into a Baroque chapel in the 18th century. The last aristocratic owner Josef Colloredo-Mannsfeld owned the castle until 1923. The Točník, whose development was violently interrupted by the Hussite revolution, still represents one of the peaks in the development of Czech castles at the end of the 14th century.
