Tybee Island Lighthouse on Tybee Island, GA

Tybee Island Light Station:  Years ago I visited the Light Station while exploring Georgia’s amazing coastal resources.  I captured some beautiful still images of the lighthouse and inside all the supporting historic buildings, but I always wanted to revisit it with a fresh set of eyes.  I still remember the breathtaking view of the entire island after ascending the dizzying 178 steps to the top along with a mother and her teenage daughter (mom refused to step out on the catwalk, and once I did I couldn’t blame her).

This time I used my DJI Air2s as my aerial camera platform.  I wanted to show the architectural beauty of the structure against the surrounding coastline, so I recorded very little of the headkeeper's cottage, the Tybee Museum, and the gift shop on the site. The station was built in 1773, is Georgia's oldest and tallest lighthouse, and disperses light that can be seen 18 miles out to sea from its nine-foot-tall First Order Fresnel lens.  The light station still functions as a navigational aid to ships entering the Savannah River harbor despite its age.  If ever you visit the Savannah area the lighthouse is one experience you want to add to your list of sites to see.
