Monviso (3,841 m asl) also called Re di Pietra, is the highest mountain in the Cottian Alps and in the mountain group of the same name, included in the subsection of the Monviso Alps, in Piedmont. Also known because at its feet (Pian del Re) there is the source of the river Po, the longest waterway in Italy, since 29 May 2013 it has become a UNESCO heritage site as a reserve of the cross-border biosphere with France, also since 2016 it has been part of the Monviso Natural Park on the Italian sector, while the Queyras Natural Park has insisted on the French sector.
