Helsinki Morning 4K

Riband Kur...

Enjoy this marvelous aerial tour of the Finnish capital of Helsinki, compliments of contributor and pilot Riband Kurd.  Situated on the north side of the Gulf of Finland (an inlet of the Baltic Sea), Helsinki is the center of the fourth-largest urban area in Scandinavia after Copenhagen, Stockholm, and Oslo.  It's also distinguished as being the northernmost metropolitan area in the world.  The video features footage of some of the city's top sights, including Senate Square, the Government Palace, and Helsinki Cathedral.

Helsinki Aerial Tour

Flyby Helsinki

Helsinki is the capital of and the most important city in the Scandinavian country of Finland.  The city, which hosted the 1952 Summer Olympics, sits on the Gulf of Finland, which connects to the Baltic Sea.  Like a number of other northern European cities, Helsinki has long been considered one of the world's most liveable cities, with many awards to that effect.  Contributor DavidfromHelsinki used his DJI Mavic Pro drone to create an amazing aerial video of this important Baltic Sea seaport city, host of the 1952 Summer Olympics.

Helsinki's Eira District

Helsinki, Eira, Finland

Richard Be...

Drone Video of the Week Finalist Richard Beresford Harris brings us this outstanding drone video from Helsinki, Finland.  The video was filmed over the district of Eira, which lies just to the south of the center of the city.  With a population of only about a thousand, it's one of the pricier neighborhoods in the Finnish capital city.  First developed in the early 20th century, the district takes its name from a hospital which is actually located in the neighboring district of Ullanlinna, which lies to its west.

Helsinki's Old Town

Vanhakaupunki, The old city of Helsinki.

Riband Kur...

When it was founded in the mid-16th century, the Finnish city of Helsinki was originally located at the mouth of the Vantaa River.  Due to a fire and a plague outbreak, it moved to its current location, about 7 km (around 4 mi.) to the south, at the tip of the Vironniemi Peninsula.  The original Helsinki site is called Vanhakaupunki, which translates to "old town" in reference to its history.  Seen here in this drone video by Riband Kurd, Vanhakaupunki is now a district within the (now much larger) Finnish capital city.

Lammassaari Island

Lammassaari, Helsinki, Finland

Richard Be...

Former Drone Video of the Week Finalist Richard Beresford Harris brings us this excellent drone video from a beautiful nature reserve near Helsinki, Finland.  Lammassaari is located within the Viikki-Vanhankaupunginlahti nature preserve, just to the northwest of central Helsinki.  One of the natural treasures of the Finnish capital city region, it's actually an island which is separated from the mainland by a series of marshes and canals.  The island is reachable either by boat or by crossing a span of duckboards.

Luuki and Nuuksio National Park

Luukki, Helsinki, Finland in 4K

Richard Be...

Top AirVuz contributor Richard Beresford Harris brings us this spectacular wintertime drone video from greater Helsinki, Finland.  The video was filmed over the Luuki Recreation Area and the Nuuksio National Park, both of which lie a bit to the north of Espoo, Helsinki's "twin" city to its west.  Covered in dense forests and dotted with hundreds of lakes, these are very popular getaways for the roughly 1.5 million people who call the Greater Helsinki Metropolitan Area their home.  They form part of the region of Uusimaa.

The forests which surround much of Helsinki, Finland make for a winter wonderland.  To see what we mean, check out this fantastic drone video by top contributor and pilot Richard Beresford Harris.  The video was filmed during a winter storm in Nuuksio National Park, which is located about 20 mi. (around 30 km) northwest of central Helsinki.  One of 40 national parks, Nuuksio was established in 1994.  It's part of the Uusimaa region, which covers much of the southern part of this Scandinavian country.

AirVuz contributor Msinerve created this excellent drone video of a passenger "cruiseferry" heading out of port in Helsinki, Finland en route to Stockholm, Sweden.  The ship is the MS Silja Serenade, which was launched in 1990 and has a near twin (the MS Silja Symphony) which first put to sea the following year.  Both ships dispace about 58k gross tons and are just over 200 meters (about 660 ft.) keel to stern.  The ships can carry a bit over 2.8k passengers and around 450 cars on their Baltic Sea routes.

Helsinki Drone Tour

Check out this drone video of the Finnish capital city Helsinki, compliments of contributor Geirykristiansen.  The video is sure to give you a good feel for this Scandinavian mini-metropolis, center of a metropolitan area of about 1.1 million.  The video provides great bird's eye views of some of the city's main landmarks, including its great Cathedral and the adjacent Helsinki Senate Square, the Helsinki Skywheel, some of the tiny islands lying offshore in the Gulf of Finland, and more.
