AIRVŪZ STAFF NOTE : While northern Italy is thought of as being covered in mountains, it's actually more accurate to say it's surrounded by mountains: specifically, various sub-ranges of the Alps and Apennines. In between, there are large areas of plains, which are home to some of Italy's best farmland. One of the most prominent is the great Lombardy Plain, which lies in the part of the region south of Milan.
