NAZARÉ 🇵🇹

Nazaré is considered the most picturesque coastal resort town in the Estremadura region of central Portugal. Dominated by a gigantic promontory at the edge of the sea, the city is clearly divided into three neighborhoods: Praia, which as its name suggests is the closest to the beach, Sitio, the promontory and Pederneira. There are interesting churches and monuments to visit, but the charm of Nazaré lies in its deep and indissoluble link with the ocean: a strong, sometimes impetuous sea, with Guinness record waves that can fascinate and at the same time instill fear (only if not you are surfers). The most typical images of Nazaré are the colorful awnings on the shore of the beach, a fascinating contrast with the blue of the ocean and the fishwives who still today, as tradition dictates, wear seven skirts. During the weekends of the summer months, you can still attend the ritual of the Arte Xávega, that is, fishing with trawl nets: do not miss the moment in which the nets full of fish are removed from the water and the Saleswomen join the efforts of the fishermen with their shouts, to attract the attention of customers.
