Naarden. The most beautiful fortified city in the Netherlands
AIRVŪZ STAFF NOTE :
Naarden is an important historical town in the Netherlands. It's located in the Gooi region of the province of North Holland, east of the Dutch capital city of Amsterdam. It is known for its star-shaped fortification, a design which evolved in the early years of gunpowder-based warfare in the 15th century. The town's unusual shape was used as a navigation aid by Allied bombers in World War II; you can see it from a somewhat lower altitude in the beautiful drone video by contributor and pilot XL Creations.

Naarden-Vesting received city rights in 1351 and is still the only city in the Gooi to this day. Because of its strategic location, Naarden became a military fortress in the 16th century and part of the Dutch Waterline. In the 17th century it got its distinctive and beautifully preserved star-shaped plan with double walls, gate buildings and bastions. The whole town breathes this military past.
