North and South Uist and Benbecula: Scotland

The middle three of the five major islands of the Outer Hebrides are rather flat and without those major sights you find on Lewis/Harris and even Barra. Still there are a lot of prehistoric little sights, including Dun an Sticir, site of a broch on a tiny island linked by a causeway.

Scolpaig Tower in a way is similar, but it's a folly, built 1830 to give the unemployed work.Barpa Langass is a Burial Cairn, currently inaccessible as it partially collapsed. Strong rain...

"Teampall na Trionaid" means Trinity Church - ruins of an Augustinian Nunnery. BUT: we thought those ruins were it but they're not. We were around 600 m off...

Borve Castle on Benbecula is a minor castle ruin, built in the 14th and left in the 17th century.

Our Lady of the Isles is a statue of Mary and Jesus, 9 m high...

Caisteal Bheagram is a tiny castle on a tiny island - the former causeway is submerged.

Flora MacDonald - the heroine who helped Bonnie Prince Charlie 1746 to escape the British government - is supposed to be born here.

Eriskay's St. Michael's church was started 1902 and built by the congregation itself - notice the boat that is part of the altar.
