Punta di Larescia - Winter Edition ❄️ (Ticino, Switzerland)

AIRVŪZ STAFF NOTE :

Top AirVuz contributor Kpax earned a spot as a Drone Video of the Week Finalist with this excellent video from the Blenio Valley in southern Switzerland.  The video was filmed with a DJI Air 3S drone in the course of a hike to the Punta di Larescia, a peak of the Lepontine Alps in the canton of Ticino.  The Lepontine Alps are a subchain of the broader Alps system which straddles the Swiss-Italian border, covering parts of the Swiss cantons of Valais, Ticino, Uri and Graubünden and the Italian regions of Lombardy and Piedmont.

The hike to Punta di Larescia is a Blenio Valley classic. An easy outing suitable for everyone, during any time of year. This easy and pleasant mountain hike is really the ideal type of itinerary for a Sunday with friends or family.

The trail starts from the Gorda hut which stands on a wide, sunny pasture. The hut is accessible by car via the forest road.

Hike the dirt road leading to the mountain pasture for about a hundred metres, and then follow the enjoyable ascent to reach the top of the mountain in just under an hour.

From here, the trail gets flatter with the last 300 metres situated on the wide terrace on the crest heading to the ‘Nest’.

The view is spectacular, especially of the Adula massif and the valley floor.

Return back along the same route to enjoy some good local food or a cool beverage at the Gorda hut, comfortably seated on the terrace while letting the children play in the surrounding meadows.

During the winter, follow the groomed trail from Pianezza or Camperio to first reach the hut and then the summit.

In the summer and autumn, stargazing nights are held at the hut and a new astronomical observatory will soon be built.
