Rabat Fortress
AIRVŪZ STAFF NOTE :
Check out this stunning drone video of a well-known castle-fortress in the Caucasus republic of Georgia, compliments of contributor Maikl_rus. Rabati Castle is located in the town of Akhaltsikhe in Samtskhe–Javakheti, one of the country's main southern regions. The original fortress here dates to the 9th century AD, and in 1393 it withstood an attack from the much-feared warrior Tamerlane. The fortress was basically completely rebuilt by the Ottomans in the 17th-18th centuries.

We had a unique opportunity to visit the ancient Rabat fort in Akhaltsikhe. This mighty, impregnable fortress turned into a huge city. The ancient building received a “chance” for a new life during the rule of Georgian President M. Saakashvili. This is an Orthodox church and the oldest mosque in Georgia, amazing defensive works and the museum of Samtskhe-Javakheti region.
