Solda - Val Venosta (Trentino - Alto Adige, Italy)

The village of Solda is located at 1,906 m asl, in the centre of the National Park of Solda and is a little mountain village with less than 400 inhabitants. Always has this place attracted pioneers of Alpinism, thanks to its beauty, location and history. The Ortles mountain range is the main natural attraction of this area, characterised by its vertiginous mountains of almost 4,000 m asl. However, in this area you cannot only do extreme climbing, but also make pleasant walks from mountain hut to mountain hut, experience high paths and do pleasant promenading on the high-altitude terraces, Alpine pastures and meadows. The funicular of Solda takes you to the 2,600 m high Rif. Città di Milano, an ideal starting point for tours in the Ortles mountain range. In winter Solda is considered a snow-sure area, offering some 44 km of ski slopes, able to satisfy all your needs. Well-groomed slopes and cosy mountain huts, this is where the winter season starts earlier and ends much later than in other Alpine sking regions. No wonder that the extreme Alpinist Reinhold Messner has chosen Solda as one of his favourite places: on the high-alpine meadows his yaks from Tibet graze, in the village there is the restaurant “Yak & Yeti” and in the so-called “Flohhäusl”, there is a little Alpine Curiosa museum which is worth a visit.
