Lago del Sambuco is a reservoir above Fusio, in the municipality of Lavizzara, Ticino, Switzerland. Its surface area is 1.11 km². The dam of Sambuco on the Maggia River was completed in 1956. Its maximum height is 130 m and length 363 m. Fusio is the highest village in Val Lavizzara (1280 meters) and is characterized by a small compact nucleus that still has some ancient stone and wood buildings. According to documents, its very remote origins date back to 1286 and it is probably not to be excluded that the Walser people, passing from the Valais to the Tyrol, also left some traces here. Near Fusio there is the hamlet of Mogno, which, due to the continuous floods and landslides, was gradually abandoned. The church from 1638 was destroyed by an avalanche in 1986; rebuilt by the architect Mario Botta, it is one of the architectural attractions of the whole of Ticino.
