Blue Night Flight Albert Park Lake - DJI MINI 3 PRO

AIRVŪZ STAFF NOTE :

Top AirVuz contributor Gizmo Drones used the new DJI Mini 3 drone to create this beautiful aerial video from the great city of Melbourne, Australia.  Shot near sundown, the video shows the impressive capabilities of this <250 g quad, which is exempt from many drone regulations.  Most of the shots are towards the CBD from the south.  You'll be treated to some nice views of the Australia 108 tower; the 100 floor residential skyscraper stands just under 1.05k ft. tall (317 m) and became Australia's tallest building when it opened in 2020.

BADGES THIS VIDEO HAS EARNED:

Today I am back at Albert Park Lake to test the DJI MINI 3 PRO in D-Cinelike 10 bit mode to capture the awesome winter blue light night sky. Its' camera does struggle to keep details in low light and I found that the D-Cinelike LUTs I have actually made the shadows worse. So I used my own colour/level settings to retain shadows and details and to minimize banding when the lake is dark. I also used noise reduction for the very dark shots.

What do you think?

I hope you like this video and thanks for watching, Brett - Gizmo Drones

Note: I few within the CASA allowed hours. In Australia day light is approximately up to 30 minutes after sunset and 30 minutes before sunrise. See OpenSky app for times and details for your location.

Camera: video setting: 4K 30fps auto camera settings in H265 MP4 D-Cinelike 10 bit colour profile

My Davinci Resolve Colour Correction Settings for D-Cinelike (don't use a LUT):

1. Add a Noise node (should be first node) to be turned on in each clip when needed, adjust motion effects below:

-Temporal 3 frames, better, small, threshold luma 35, chroma 0,, motion 50, blend 0

-Spatial NR: better, small

-Spatial Theshold: 13.8, 13.8, 0

2. Add node for colour to suit D-Cinelike mode: add 10% colour and saturate at 67%, tint 63% for this footage (might be different for yours) and do not increase contrast as it makes low light banding worse.

3. Add node for levels: adjust lift and gain wheels on each shot to keep them within the parade max/min levels and to prevent blocky blacks.

4. Add node for shadows/contrast: increase shadows by +30%, highlights at 0% except dark shots +10% plus slight S curve and adjust if needed. Don't add contrast as the blacks can look bad.

Please let me know if these settings work for you or if you have better settings. Cheers, Brett
