Former seaside colony of Funtanazza

The Francesco Sartori seaside holiday camp in Funtanazza was inaugurated on May 13, 1956, and was the last major project by the Montevecchio Mining Company for the children of its employees. The facility housed six hundred children and approximately one hundred staff with specific tasks during three shifts from June to September. The building, constructed of reinforced concrete, stood on a large and picturesque inlet. The functional and bright interiors were intended for the children's temporary stay. It also featured two swimming pools, one of which met CONI standards, along with a service building, a garage, a caretaker's lodge, an isolation ward for infectious diseases, and electrical substations. The colony, commissioned by engineers Filippo Minghetti and Giovanni Rolandi, cost the company 1.587 million lire, including the eighteen kilometers of road connecting it, eight hectares of stone pine reforestation, and the water main connected to the Montevecchio aqueduct. Its final closure occurred in the early 1980s.
