Lake Baikal, Russia by GoPro Karma Drone

Vadim_Danilov

Vadim779 used a GoPro Hero 7 Black mounted to a Karma drone to create this amazing aerial view of a partly frozen Lake Baikal in Russia. The great lake was formed by a giant rift running across a portion of Siberia.  With a surface area of just over 31k square km. (about 11k square mi.), it's the world's seventh largest lake.  Where Baikal truly stands out though is it's depth - with a max depth of over 1.6km (just over a mile), it's the world's deepest lake, and it's also #1 in terms of water volume.

Novosibirisk is surprisingly unknown for being Russia's third largest city.  It's located deep in Siberia, although it's still part of Western Siberia.  The city is situated on the River Ob, one of the three giant waterways which drain the vastness of Siberia into the Arctic Ocean.  Contributor ZURG used his drone to give you a bird's eye view of the city, which was founded in the late 19th century as part of the construction of the Trans-Siberian Railway which extended Russian into its Far East.

Kamchatka. The Winter Surf Challenge

Timelab.pro

Two-time DVA winner Timelab.pro created this magnificent drone video (itself nominated for Drone Video of the Week) from the Kamchatka Peninsula in Russia's Far East.  The video includes footage of the Winter Surf Challenge - yes, surfing in Siberia!  It also includes footage of some of the area's spectacular natural scenery, including the Klyuchevskaya Sopka volcano, the Parantuka river, and the Vilyuchinsky Pass.  The video was shot using a Zenmuse X7 camera mounted to a DJI Inspire 2 drone.

Sakhalin: Discovery with a Land Rover

VISION.ONE

Sakhalin is a giant island in Far Eastern Russia in the Northern Pacific Ocean.  It lies in Siberia, almost 6,400 km (almost 4,000 mi) from the Russian capital in Moscow.  In this remarkable video, contributor Vision. One used a drone to create an aerial perspective of an off-road event on Sakhalin organized by Land Rover.  The video follows a group of 4x4 land rovers as they trek across this enormous yet remote island in the far reaches of Northeast Asia.

Russia's Altai Mountains

smmaxim

Contributor smmaxim created this stunning drone video of the Altai Mountains in Siberian Russia.  The mountain range actually extends across four countries - Russia, China, Mongolia, and Kazakhstan.  Because of the lack of passes, the mountains are notoriously hard to access, making for some of the most remote lands in Asia.  With numerous rivers, streams, and gigantic lakes, it makes for some stunning scenery, perhaps all the more so because it is so remote.

Siberian Flights: Along the Lena River

adrianotrapani.com

Contributor Adrianotrapani created this magnificent video from western Siberia in Russia.  It was shot in a district of the Irkust Oblast, which lies just to the west of Lake Baikhal.  The video was shot along the Lena River, one of the three great rivers which drain Siberia into the Arctic Sea.  Drawing from the same watershed as Lake Baikhal (the world's largest freshwater lake measured by water volume), the waterway runs over 4.3k mi. (almost 2.7k mi.), forming a giant delta in the Laptev Sea in the Arctic Circle.

The Valley of Geysers, Kamchatka, Russia

VISION.ONE

In this video, you'll get a bird's eye view of the world's second largest geyser field.  Appropriately enough, it's called Geyser Valley, and it's situated on the gigantic Kamchatka Peninsula in Russia's Far East.  Geyser Valley hosts close to 100 active geysers plus numerous hot springs.  Vision One flew a DJI drone over much of this amazing field to create this amazing aerial video.  Feast your eyes on some of these bird's eye views of the very eastern reaches of Siberian Russia.

Showreel Night Khabarovsk

Garry Studio

Garry Studio created this magnificent nighttime drone video of Khabarovsk, one of the most important cities in Siberian Russia. It's the second largest city in the Russian Far East after the port city Vladivostok, which lies some distance to its south.  Khabarovsk lies on the Amur River, one of the three giant waterways that drain Siberia.  It's just a few km/mile from the Chinese border, and it's played an important role in the struggles that played out for centuries in this part of Northeast Asia.

Mayday Studio brings us this beautiful drone video of Tomsk, an important city in Siberian Russia.  Tomsk is located in the western part of the region, and is the capital of the oblast (state) of the same name.  With a population of about a half million, Tomsk is one of the oldest cities in Siberia.  The oldest major city in Siberia, the city was founded in the early 17th century.  Its establishment was one of the seminal events in the centuries-long process whereby Russia conquered Siberia.

Contributor and drone pilot Wrenee, aka the Queen of the Dronie, applied her trademark pull-out shot to a gigantic (frozen) lake in eastern Russia.  Lake Baikal is situated in southern Siberia.  Formed by a giant rift valley, the long, narrow lake extends hundreds of km/mi northwards from its southern end near the border with Mongolia.  While it's surface area is not as large as some of North America's Great Lakes, its enormous depth makes it the world's largest freshwater lake by volume.

Garry Studio

Contributor Garry Studio worked with a Finnish forest equipment company to produce this amazing video of the Taiga snow forest in Siberian Russia.  Harvesting Russia's vast timber resource in some of the most remote regions on earth represents a considerable challenge.  As you'll see in the video, the ground conditions are as demanding as those found in surface mining areas, and (as one can imagine) it's even further complicated by the bitter cold of the endless winter months.

The Kamchatka Peninsula is located in the Russian Far East. The 780-mile peninsula borders the Pacific Ocean to the east and the Sea of Okhotska to the west.  The western part of the peninsula is home to a cluster of volcanoes, some of them still active.  The volcanic area has been designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1996. Drone pilot Rocannon takes us to the remote, Siberian destination to enjoy its dynamic views from the comfort of our warm homes.

Watching Tomsk

Mayday studio

The process by which Russia conquered Siberia was analagous in some respects to the western expansion of the USA.   One of the critical events in this process was the establishment of the city of Tomsk, which was effected by the decree of the Tsar shortly after the turn of the 16th century.  While it's no longer the largest city in the region, it is still in many respects the cultural capital of this vast region.  Check out this city on the Tom River in this drone video by Mayday Studios.
