The Best of Berlin, from Above

New Entert...

The German capital Berlin was arguably the most important city in the world in the 20th century.  It was the capital of Germany when the country plunged into World Wars I-II, and was considered (in divided form) the most likely flash point for a World War III which (fortunately) did not occur.  Berlin is now the capital of a country which is one of the pillars of international peace and stability.  Here is a magnificent aerial tour of the great city on the Elbe, complements of New Entertainment Pictures.

Spring Berlin

Check out this springtime drone video of Berlin, Germany.  The two "stars" of the show are the Berlin Cathedral (Dom) and the Berlin Television Tower (Fernsehturm Berlin).  The former was completed in 1905, on the eve of the Great War.  It is situated on Museum Island, just east of Checkpoint Charlie during the Cold War years.  The latter is a TV tower and observatory a few blocks further to the northeast.  Built in the 1960's as a symbol of Communist power, it's still the tallest structure in (the now-reunited) Germany.

The Supreme Parish and Collegiate Church in Berlin,  aka the Berliner Dom, is one of the most recognized sites in the German capital city.  It was built in 1905, when Berlin was at the peak of its Pre-World War I imperial splendor under Kaiser Wilhelm II.  In this video, top content creator and pilot Raf Neo used a DJI MAvic Pro drone to create an aerial tour of this amazing structure in the Museum Island area of the city, which was in the Western sector and surrounded by the Berlin Wall for decades during the Cold War.

Treptower Park is one of the largest in Berlin, Germany.  Seen in this drone video by new contributor Darionis TV, it's located on the south bank of the River Spree in the southeastern borough of Treptow-Köpenick.  Built in connection with the city's Great Industrial Exposition of 1896, it's now best known for its Soviet War Memorial commemorating the tens of thousands of soldiers lost by the USSR in the Battle of Berlin, the climactic clash of World War II in Europe which resulted in the German surrender in early May, 1945.

(around eight square km), it's located in the Treptow-Köpenick District in the southeastern part of the city.  The lake is connected to the River Spree, which flows through the heart of Berlin, via a smaller waterway called the Müggelspree.

Contributor Marek brings us this excellent drone video of the Sanssouci, a historical landmark near Berlin, Germany.  Located in the southern suburb of Potsdam, the Sanssouci was built as a summer palace for Frederick the Great, the King of Prussia (the predecessor of modern Germany) in the mid-18th century; it remained a residence of the ruling Hohenzollern family until the fall of the dynasty in 1918.  The video features footage of the palace as well as the surrounding grounds, much of which was also built during Frederick's reign.

Famously, the German city of Berlin hosted the last Summer Olympics held before the onset of World War II, during the first half of August, 1936.  Adolph Hitler and other top leaders of Nazi Germany were in attendance, and the American athlete Jesse Owens' four gold medals in track and field were regarded as an affront to Nazi ideals about racial supremacy.  In this drone video by Aliencopter, you'll get a bird's eye view of the Berlin Olympic grounds, including the Bell Tower and the Berlin Olympic Stadium.

Check out the eerie abandoned park in this aerial film by pilot ImpactFPV. Plänterwald, Germany’s Spreepark was opened in East Germany in 1969. The amusement park was the only constantly running entertainment park in the GDR during that time. In 1991, after Germany’s reunification, more attractions were added, eventually turning it into a more Western-style park. By 2002, the park had debt levels of over 11 million euro and was declared insolvent.

The Soviet War Monument

After World War II ended in 1945, the victorious Soviet Union wanted a monument to the Red Army's defeat of Nazi Germany built in its occupied sector of East Berlin.  The result was the Soviet Memorial at Treptower Park, an area on the River Spee just southeast of the central district.  Contributor DP Pictures created a beautiful aerial video of this landmark, which is testament to the massive suffering by the Soviet Union in the Great Patriotic War (as the conflict is still known in Russia).

AirVuz contributor and pilot Solon-luigi created this remarkable drone video of a key Cold War outpost in Berlin, Germany.  Divided among the key victorious powers at the conclusion of World War II, Berlin was generally regarded as the key flashpoint during the long decades of the Cold War.  The US National Security Agency listening post shown in this video was one of the means by which the Western Powers were able to monitor Soviet activity in the region and detect possible pre-emptive strikes on West Berlin.
