DVOW Winning Video of Portugal
Contributor Hubert Zielenski created this unforgettable aerial tour of Portugal. Situated in the southwestern corner of Europe, Portugal was once known as the Edge of the World, and then went on to launch the great Age of Exploration. His video includes stunning bird's eye footage of Sintra, Lisbon, Porto, and Algarve. Shot with a DJI Mavic Air drone, this video was a winner of the AirVuz Drone Video of the Week Contest in June, 2018.
Aerial Tour of Portugal
Eaglewood Films took to the skies along the coast of Portugal to capture its rugged and picturesque landscape in 4K. Once believed to be located on the very edge of the inhabited world, Portugal was one of the first areas of Europe to launch long distance ships, which it then used its to amass one of the world's greatest empires in the 15th and 16th centuries. This aerial video will show you why this country has become such a popular destination for tourists and drone pilots alike.
Porto and Algarve
Contributor Yoan-Guerreiro created this stunning drone video, which shows us the power of the DJI Mavic Air drone as well as the magnificent beauty of the Southern European country of Portugal. With beautiful aerial footage of Porto (Portugal's second largest city, after the capital city Lisbon) and Algarve (in the southernmost part of the country), his video was selected as a finalist for the AirVuz Drone Video of the Week contest in July of 2018.
Lisbon: Portugal's Capital City
In this video, top contributor Justin Poore used a drone to give us an unforgettable look at the amazing city of Lisbon, Portugal. The video captures many of the top sights in the Portuguese capital, including an epic shot of its iconic 25 de Abril Bridge at around the 1:40 mark. The red-colored bridge spanning the Tagus River between Lisbon and Almada has been a filming location for numerous movies, notably the 1969 James Bond movie On Her Majesty's Secret Service, the seventh movie in the series.
Porto: Portugal's Second City
Porto (Oporto) is Portugal's second city after the capital Lisbon. It's the most important city in the country's norte region. It is the city after which port wine is named, and it remains the most important source for that libation. The city dates to the Antiquity. Culturally it is at least as significant as Lisbon if not more so, and the entire core city is a UNESCO World Heritage site. In this stunning video, Sprintz gives us a bird's eye view at this city which is located in an estuary of the Duoro River.
DVOM Winning Video of Madeira
This film captures the essence of a trip to Madeira, a group of islands off the coast of North Africa which are a semi-autonomous region of Portugal. As you'll see from the video, Rocky cliffs, towering mountains, and shining coasts make this a great bucket list destination for any avid traveler. Contributor used a combination of ground camera and drone footage to create this epic record of his trip, which was nominated for the Drone Video of the Month.
Sintra: Pena Palace
Portugal's Romanesque Revival style Pena Palace is considered one of the greatest of the European castles. It's located at the top of Sintra Mountain overlookling the town of the same name, near the Portuguese capital city Lisbon. Completed in 1854, it is regarded as one of the country's greatest national treasures. Contributor Francisco Rodriguez, one of the top drone pilots in Portugal, created this amazing aerial view of this hilltop place of almost surreal beauty as it glimmers in the mist.
Cabo de Roca: Portugal's Western Tip
Cabo de Roca in southwestern Portugal enjoys the distinction of being the westernmost location in mainland Europe. It is part of the Sintra district, which lies to the north and west of Lisbon. The lanscape of Cabo de Roca is one of white sand beaches and spectacular cliffs overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. Contributor Flying Visions flew a drone over this amazing spot on the western Iberian Peninsula, and the resulting aerial perspective is amazing.
Cascais: Portugal's Famous Beach
Cascais is a town lying on the Portuguese Atlantic coast immediately to the west of Portugal's capital city Lisbon, near the middle of the country's Atlantic coastline. It is the most popular beach area in Portugal and one of the finest such areas in Europe. Consider Deardrone used a DJI Mavic Pro drone to fly over this spectacular resort area, and the aerial views of the , colorful umbrellas, happy beach goers, and refreshing waters is not to be missed!
The Azores by Drone
There is something about this drone video by Nonexistent Jay of the Azores that is just amazing. The deep blue water of the Atlantic Ocean, the volcanic craters, the narrow winding roads, the fog-enshrouded hilltops, the lush green valleys - it just works. The nine volcanic islands are vestiges of Portugal's once-great colonial empire; now they operate as a semi-autonomous region, similar to Madeira which is an island located closer to the Portuguese mainland.
Aerial Tour of Algarve
This drone video by Laurent Paris will show you why Algarve has become one of the hottest destinations in southern Europe. The region is the southernmost of the country's five official regions, and also it's least populous. As tourists have discovered the incredible beauty of the region's coastline, it's become one of the most popular destinations in the country, rivaling the Lisbon region (until recently the dominant region for tourism) by some measures.
The landscape of the area around Alqueva in the Alentejo region of southeastern Portugal has been transformed by a massive hydro-engineering project called Alqueva Dam. The dam provides electricity for the region and also helps to preserve water supplies for agriculture. The reservoir created by the dam is essentially a giant artificial lake. Contributor Flybyzion gives us a drone's eye view of the area, where centuries-old castles now sit on or near this massive body of water.
Centro Region: Óbidos Castle
Óbidos Castle is one of Portugal's most famous. The castle is situated in a city of the same name in the Leira district in the country's Centro region. The castle was built in the 12th century on the site of an old Roman fort, following the Reconquista of Portugal by Christian forces. You can see this famous castle from above in this drone video, compliments of Pedrodrone4k. In 1951, the castle and grounds were designated as a national monument and restored with government funds.
The Mountains of Portugal
Contributor Tonycorreia created this award winning drone video of the mountains of northern Portugal. The Serra da Estrela mountain range runs across much of northeastern Portugal. It's part of a larger system which runs into northern Spain. The highest elevation point of the range is around 2.0k meters (about 6.5k ft.). It lies in the northern part of the country's Centro (Central) region, although the range stretches northward into the Porto/Norte region as well.
Alcobaca; Portugal's Central Coast
For cinematic drone footage of birds flying along a beautiful coastline, this video can't be beat. Skylight used a drone to capture a flock of seagulls on the coast of Portugal in the area of Alcobaca, which lies about midway down Portugal's Atlantic coastline in the Centro region of the country. The video starts with an aerial shot of some spectacular rocks along the beach at sunset, and then picks up some stunning shots of the seagulls flying up the coast.
Northern Portugal's Douro River
Contributor and drone pilot Francisco Rodriguez created this beautiful aerial video of the great Portuguese city of Porto. Once a Roman outpost, this city on the Douro River is steeped in history: it was the shipbuilders of Porto who helped launch Europe on its great Age of Exploration. Famously, Porto Harbor was the launching point for Prince Henry the Navigator's exploratory trip to Africa in 1415, a voyage which was at least as consequential as that of Chrisopher Columbus later in the century.
Praia Grande: Portugal's Surfing Heaven
Francisco Rodriguez created this amazing drone video of the surfing scene at Praia Grande Beach. It's located in the Sintra province of the Greater Lisbon region, just a bit west-northwest of the capital city. It's part of the area sometimes known as the Portuguese Riviera, a stretch of Atlantic coastline that includes famed beaches such as Cabo de Roca and Cascais, which are more popular with swimmers (as opposed to surfers) and lie to its south.
Setúbal: Portugal's Fishing Capital
Setúbal is a medium sized port city on the estuary of the Sado River, in the Greater Lisbon region of Portugal. Its calm waters stand in stark contrast to the much rougher Atlantic waters of the cities along the country's Atlantic coast. The city was once the center of Portugal's fishing industry, one of the largest in the world at one point. Jorge Novo Murias used a DJI Mavic Pro drone to create a bird's eye view of the waterfront of Setúbal at sunset.
Portugal's Mid-Atlantic Coastline
Contributor Petrolftavares created this stunning drone video of an area along the middle of Portugal's Atlantic coastline. The video covers the area between Batalha and São Pedro de Moel in the Leiria district, which is part of the country's Centro region. The video includes footage of the stunning coastline, as well as cultural sites like the Mosteira da Batalha, a monastery which has been designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Palmeira's Lighthouse of the North
The Atlantic coastline of Portugal's Norte region is dominated by Porto and cities which have become part of its metropolitan area. One of these cities is Leça da Palmeira, a city which is situated just a short ways up the coast from Porto. It has a long history as an important port city and more recently as an oil refining center. Contributor Hpascoal created this beautiful drone video of the lighthouse of Leça da Palmeira, with other parts of the coastal city visible in the background.
Aerial Tour of Sintra
Eminorcks created this epic drone video of Sintra, a culturally important Portuguese town in the Greater Lisbon area. An ancient city that has long been one of the most important in Portugal, Sintra was "discovered" again beginning in the late 18th century, when many new structures were built in the Romanticist style. It continues to be one of the biggest tourist destinations in Portugal, and its travel indistry helps to propel the entire Greater Lisbon region of Portugal.
Algarve: Heaven in South Portugal
The magnificent natural beauty of Portugal's Algarve region are on full display here in this amazing video by contributor Breo. The region at the southern tip of Portugal has emerged as one of Europe's top beach destinations, and when you watch this you'll see why. Its pink cliffs, the deep blue waters of the Bay of Cadiz, and the complex shape of the coastline, and the charm of its seaside towns combine to create an irrestible appeal. The video was shot with a DJI Mavic Pro in full 4K.
DVOW Nominee from the Azores
Located in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, 850 miles from mainland Portugal, this Portuguese archipelago is made up of nine volcanic islands. Drone pilot AeroGrafica takes us up above the clouds, over the abundant waterfalls, around the steep, jutting cliffs and to the wide ocean. This Drone Video of the Week Nominee does an excellent job showing the beauty of these islands, the remnants of a Portuguese overseas empire which was once the largest in the world.
Madeira by Drone
Madeira is a group of Portuguese islands located southwest of the mainland in the Atlantic Ocean. It is a popular resort area and considered to be one of the leading European island destinations, with over a million tourist arrivals per year. Contributor XL Creations took a four day trip to Madeira with a drone and made this amazing video, which includes aerial footage from Achada do Teixeira, Funchal, Ilheus da Rib, Porto da Cruz, Ribeiro Frio, Seixal, and more.
Lisbon by Drone
Contributor Martigen created this marvelous drone video of the Portuguese capital city Lisbon. It opens with a magnificent shot of Praça do Comércio on the Tagus River. The square was built on the ruins of the Ribeira Palace, the great Portuguese royal palace. The palace along with much of Lisbon was destroyed in one of history's greatest natural disasters: the 1755 earthquake, which is estimated to have registered up to 9.0 on the Richter Scale, devastated the city and killed up to 100,000 people.

Escapeaway created this amazing drone video to record some of the highlights of a trip to Portugal. It includes some of the most iconic sites in this beautiful and ancient land. The film features footage of one of Portugal's large wind farms, the terraces of the Douro River in the Norte region, and the delightful province of Sintra. Most of the rest of the footage was filmed around the great capital city of Lisbon. At 1:40, you'll get an epic shot of Praça do Comércio, the city's main square on the Tagus.

Pena Palace: Portuguese Cultural Treasure
Contributor guydrory created this magnificent aerial view of Pena Palace, one of the great cultural treasures of Portugal and widely considered one of the world's top 4-5 castles. It's located in the hills of the Sintra province, northeast of Lisbon. Completed on the site of a ruined medieval monastery in 1854, it was built as a summer residence for the Portuguese Royal Family. Its design represents one of the more prominent architectural expressions of 19th century Romanticist thought.

Contributor guydrory managed to condense a 10 day trip through Portugal into this amazing 60 second drone reel. The video opens with an epic shot of Pena Palace, the Romanticist masterpiece which is situated in the Sintra province. From there, you'll be taken over the famous rock formations of nearby Cascais Beach, and the Belém Tower fortification in the Tagus River which defended Lisbon. From there it's on to hilltop medieval castles, verdant river valleys, and more from this beautiful country.
Reel from Algarve
For an aerial overview of Algarve, the province covering the southernmost part of Portugal, it's hard to beat this reel by eMotionScapes. The video features epic bird's eye views of many areas of the Algarve coastline, some of which faces west to the open Atlantic and some of which faces south to the Bay of Cadiz. Much of the footage was shot at sunset, and there's an amazing shot of a windmill farm operating somewhere in the province, also shot at sunset.
