Contributor Mattcoq used a drone to create this fascinating aerial video of a major urban redevelopment project in Shanghai, China's largest city.   Suzhou Creek is one of the waterways which passes through central Shanghai.  With China's rapid industrialization, the creek became terribly polluted.  As part of a gigantic environmental remediation project, thousands of "green" housing units have been built here, part of Shanghai's ongoing transition to a service-oriented economic base.

The most important river of Shanghai, China is actually not the Yangtze,  the country's longest river is not actually the defining river of Shanghai.  That title goes to the Huangpu River, a much shorter waterway which flows through central Shanghai from south to north and dividing the great city into Pudong (to the east) and Puxi (to the west) before emptying into the Yangtze.  In this video, you'll get a bird's eye look at this important waterway, compliments of contributor and drone pilot Mattcoq.

Fomer Drone Video of the Week Finalist Mattcoq brings us this excellent drone video from Shanghai as China's largest city was in the sixth week of a lockdown due to the Covid-19 pandemic in 2022.  The video was shot over Puxi, which is the part of Shanghai lying on the West Bank of the Huangpu River and encompasses the historic heart of the city.  While China had been able to contain the novel coronavirus for much of 2020 and 2021, the Omicron wave washed over many of its largest cities in early 2022, triggering massive lockdowns.

The Huángpǔ River is a 70-mile-long river that traverses through Shanghai, China. It is the last significant tributary of the Yangtze River (China's longest waterway) before she empties into the belly of the South China Sea (an extension of the Pacific Ocean). It is easy to see its power and importance in this drone video by Mattcoq. His Mavic 2 Pro shows the flowing river as it winds its way through mainland China's most important financial center and its second largest city after Beijing.

German contributor aeronauten-tv.de created this beautiful nighttime drone video of the most well known view in Shanghai China: looking eastward from the Bund area over to the Pudong district on the eastern side of the Huangpu River.  This area was the site of one of the most intense (and poorly remembered) battle scenes of the 20th century: the Battle of Shanghai of 1937, in which Japanese and Chinese troops squared off on opposite sides of the river in the opening stages of what became World War II.

Today's racing drones equipped with first person view gear are capable of diving the world's tallest skyscrapers.  In this piece by FPV pilot drew.drones, you'll get a one-of-a-kind perspective of one of China's tallest skyscrapers: the 101 story Shanghai World Financial Center.  Standing 492 meters (1.6k ft.), it was the city's tallest building when completed in 2008.  The second-tallest as of 2020, its trapezoid-shaped hole makes it one of the world's most distinctive modern skyscrapers.
