The island nation of Iceland is considered part of Scandinavia, despite lying almost 1000 km (600 mi) from mainland Europe. The natural scenery of Iceland is like no place else on earth. Iceland is one of the youngest places on the planet, having been formed from volcanic eruptions on the sea floor of the Atlantic Ocean. The spectacular landscape that nature has afforded Iceland, including many active volcanoes and endless glaciers, has led to its being a primary shooting location for HBO's Game of Thrones series. Nor have Iceland's charms gone unnoticed by drone pilots, who have flocked to the island in recent years to create highly compelling video content such as you will see in this collection. Take in some stunning aerial views of Iceland in this fast-paced 90 second piece by former Drone Video of the Week Finalist AndriThor. The video begins with some incredible shots of some iconic Iceland waterfalls before heading to the lava fields of the Highlands of the southern interior. From there, you'll be taken over the island's spectacular Atlantic coastline, through its gaping canyons, past its distinctive-looking mountains and more rushing waterfalls, and over its steaming geothermal sites.

Check out this drone video from the Highlands of Iceland, compliments of new AirVuz contributor Alexandre Velluet x Scandia Productions. The Icelandic Highlands is a series of plateaus which cover much of the interior of the island. They are very sparsely populated and not easily accessible by road. Most of the video was filmed in the area between Landmannalaugar (an area of the Fjallabak Nature Reserve, in the south-central part of the country) and the Vatnajokull Glacier in the island's southeastern corner.

Home to some of the world's largest icecaps and glaciers, and graced with massive waterfalls, Iceland reminds the world of fresh water's importance to life on Planet Earth. That's the message that top contributor Paul Vlad wants to bring through in this excellent drone video from the North Atlantic island nation. You'll be taken over scenes of massive water movement in the form of falls, streams, and rivers, all parts of a giant system which is in danger of being thrown out of balance by human activity.

Iceland is an infant in geological terms, having arisen by the process of volcanic eruptions on the floor of the North Atlantic Ocean a mere 60 million years ago. Its newness is reflected in the unique landscapes of the island, which provide a visual experience unlike any other in the world. In this amazing drone video by AirVuz contributor Eneour, which was picked as a Finalist for the Drone Video of the Week in February, 2023, you'll get a sense of the "textures" of this mysterious land.
