The village Dishoek is located behind the high dunes (some are more than 50 meters high) of the Walcheren coast. Dishoek owes its name to the fact that the village was located near a sea dike (Dishoek comes from the word "dijkhoek"). That sea dike has now disappeared. But during a storm surge, when a lot of sand washes off the beach, the remains can still be seen.
