The Gino Biasi al Bicchiere Mountain Hut is one of the most spectacular mountain refuges in South Tyrol. Located at around 3,200 meters above sea level, it stands in a high-alpine environment in the heart of the Stubai Alps, above Ridanna Valley (Val Ridanna). Its isolated position, surrounded by impressive rocky walls, snowfields, and glaciers, creates an authentic Alpine atmosphere and offers breathtaking mountain views.
The route to the hut passes through the wild and scenic Ridanna Valley, one of the most characteristic valleys in South Tyrol. Starting from the lower part of the valley, the landscape gradually changes with altitude: forests give way to alpine pastures and eventually to increasingly rocky and rugged terrain. As hikers climb higher, glaciers and snow-covered peaks become more prominent, marking the transition into a true high-mountain environment.
One of the most fascinating features of the area is the Malavalle Glacier, one of the main glaciers of the Stubai Alps. The glacier occupies the upper Malavalle Valley and dominates the landscape with its fields of ice and snow. Its appearance changes throughout the year and, like many Alpine glaciers, it is also a visible reminder of the effects of climate change on the mountain environment.
The hut is also closely connected with routes leading towards Cima Libera, one of the major peaks in the area, reaching approximately 3,418 meters. Reaching the summit requires mountaineering experience and a good knowledge of glacial terrain, particularly when snow, ice, and crevasses are present. From the summit, climbers can enjoy magnificent views across the Stubai Alps and the surrounding mountain peaks.
Reaching the Gino Biasi al Bicchiere Mountain Hut therefore means entering a spectacular and authentic high-alpine world, where the Ridanna Valley, Malavalle Glacier, and major peaks such as Cima Libera come together to create an unforgettable landscape. It is an ideal destination for experienced hikers and mountaineers who want to experience both the beauty and the demanding nature of the mountains above 3,000 meters.
