Dancing with Whales

AIRVŪZ STAFF NOTE :

AirVuz contributor Peter Barthelson was working on a research vessel in Greenland when he spotted a pair of whales moving about in the icebergs off the giant island's eastern coast.  He was able to get his FPV drone up in time to film the beautiful creatures, who seemed unaware of the presence of the drone.  The whales, which he believes were mother and calf humpbacks, stayed in place long enough for him to create this stunning video.   At least 15 different whale species can be found off the coast of the world's largest island.

BADGES THIS VIDEO HAS EARNED:

I will post a few more videos from Greenland as soon as i have time to edit, but if you want to see more right now, i post frequently over at my insta: https://www.instagram.com/proxydrone/ Im working as a second officer onboard a research vessel and we recently spent about 3 weeks on the east coast of Greenland. Im usually on the night-shit, and this happened around 12 at night, (It does not get dark in Greenland during summer) We saw some whale puffs over by some smaller icebergs and realized at once it was whales. Normally once you see the puffs, they will dive soon, and dont come up again anywhere near where you are, and you wont see them again. Before this, there had never been a chance to launch the drone, because they would be gone by the time you were in the air. This time though, as they stuck around, i gave it a shot. Once in the air they were still there, and in fact, they stayed around for over an hour going up and down. (They did not seem bothered by the drone at all as they stuck around for so long, and i doubt they can even hear it or see it under water) We think it was a mother and a calf, (we are also pretty certain they were humpbacks) where the mother was teaching the calf how to hunt, but if anyone watching this knows what they are doing, please leave a comment!
