On November 24, I walked to the edge of our local lake and looked out – the water was frozen but looked uninteresting, just a sheet of gray. But I had my drone with me so I put it up in the air. Instantly the view changed from bland to spectacular. This is a theme I keep coming back to, my third year of seeing the lake ice in this extraordinary way. The formations and textures are endlessly fascinating and unexpected, surreal and abstract. There are very few clues as to how high I am flying, but if you look closely you can sometimes see some leaves stuck in the ice, or a red buoy. This was filmed with a Mavic 2 Pro drone, the music is "Gratitude" by Borrtex, courtesy of FreeMusicArchives.org. And yes I am grateful for this opportunity to see our world in this beautiful and different way!
