Mt Macedon Memorial Cross - Macedon Ranges Victoria 4K

AIRVŪZ STAFF NOTE : The Mount Macedon Memorial Cross is one of Australia's most important war memorials. Seen here in this drone video by Gizmo Drones, it's located in the Shire of Macedon Ranges region in the state of Victoria. Completed in 1935, its primary purpose was to commemorate Australia's war dead during the Great War, as World War I was then known. Australia sustained casualties of over 200,000 during that conflict (including 60,000 killed), a massive blow to a country which had a population of less than 5 million at the war's outbreak.

After filming Hanging Rock I visited the nearby Mt Macedon Memorial Cross (also called Cameron Memorial Cross) which is a heritage-listed war memorial on top of Mount Macedon. It is considered the most significant war memorial in Victoria after Melbourne’s Shrine of Remembrance. The imposing structure stands 21 metres or 69 feet high and commemorates all those who served in wars and conflicts. It was fascinating to see the clouds below it although it was still quite early and cool on the mountain although soon it would be a hot summers day.
