Capo Testa - Santa Teresa di Gallura, Sardinia 2023

AIRVŪZ STAFF NOTE :

Top AirVuz contributor Marco Miele brings us this stunning drone video from the northwestern coast of the Italian island of Sardinia.  The video was shot over Capo Testa, a peninsula connected to the island by a narrow isthmus.  At the 1:08 mark, you'll see the cape's small (namesake) settlement, which lies on its eastern side, closest to the "mainland" of Sardinia.  Other highlights include some brilliant shots of the Capo Testa Lighthouse (Faro di Capo Testa) at the northern tip of the island, seen at 1:25 and again at 1:39.

Capo Testa is a small peninsula located in the north of Sardinia, a few kilometers from Santa Teresa di Gallura. It overlooks the Bocche di Bonifacio and is connected to the mainland by a narrow isthmus, along which two beaches extend. The promontory is made up of the typical Gallura granite rocks eroded by the wind and has a perimeter of about ten kilometres. Capo Testa was used in Roman times both for its strategic position and for supplying the granite present which was extracted and transported to Rome. From the early seventies Capo Testa began its tourist development and is considered one of the most beautiful and appreciated sites in Gallura and the whole of Sardinia Capo Testa is a site of Community interest (SIC), established pursuant to the Habitats Community Directive and included in the system of areas dedicated to the conservation of biodiversity, belonging to the "Natura 2000 ecological network". On the promontory of Capo Testa there is a lighthouse of fundamental importance for navigation in the stretch of sea of the Bocche di Bonifacio. Next to the new lighthouse are the infrastructures that make up the old lighthouse. These infrastructures, which can be visited, constitute a fantastic observation point on the cliffs below and on Corsica. The sheltered beaches are used for swimming by tourists including the world famous Valle della Luna. From Capo Testa the Islands of Lavezzi and Capo Pertusato are clearly visible in the southern end of Corsica
