Lebanon - Highlands

Fabio Knoll

Award winning contributor Fabio Knoll created this amazing aerial tour of the highlands of Lebanon.  Though a small country, Lebanon has an enormously varied landscape, with two parallel mountain ranges running down much of its north-south extent.  The highest mountains are in the northern parts of the Mt. Lebanon range.  The peaks here top out at a maximum elevation of around 3k meters above sea level (about 10k ft.).  This area is also home to Lebanon's six ski resorts, some of whose slopes are featured in the video.

Cinematic Drone Video: Beirut 2018

nasr khabbaz

AirVuz content creator and pilot Nasr Khabbaz used a DJI Mavic Air drone to create this amazing aerial view of modern Beirut.  Situated on the eastern Mediterranean Sea, the Lebanese capital city is one of the oldest urban areas in the world.  More than 5,000 years old, at various times the city has played a central role in the affairs of the Middle East.  In the mid-1970's, following a several decade boom, Beirut was the epicenter of a brutal civil war which drew in most of the other powers of the region.

Cedars of God

Christian Atallah

The Middle Eastern nation of Lebanon has an association with cedar trees that goes back for eons.  The vast forest that once existed on the slopes of Mt. Lebanon was cited in numerous ancient texts and was one of the key sources for shipbuilding materials in the Mediterranean.  Long since depleted by logging, most of what remains of the ancient forest is confined to the Cedars of God  site near the town of Bsharri.  Now a UNESCO World Heritage site, you can check it out from above in this drone video by AirVuz contributor CHristia Atallah.

Here is a beautiful aerial view of a village in Lebanon's Bekaa Valley, compliments of contributor and drone pilot nasr khabbaz.  The Bekaa (sometimes spelled Beqaa) Valley is the breadbasket of Lebanon.  It runs between the Mount Lebanon and Anti-Lebanon ranges, forming a roughly oval-shaped pattern oriented roughly in alignment with the overall shape of the country.  Despite the rain shadow caused by the mountains, it is the most productive agricultural region of the country and one of the more productive in the Middle East.

The waterfall of Baatara Gorge is one of the natural wonders of the small Middle Eastern country of Lebanon.  Only known to locals until the 1950's, the waterfall drops a total of 255 meters (about 840 ft.) into a giant limestone cave called the Balaa Pothole.  It's one of the stops along the Lebanon Mountain Trail, a trail which runs about 470 km (around 290 mi.) through some of the country's most beautiful mountainous scenery.   Check out this magnificent scene from above in this drone video by contributor Christian Altallah.

Drone Reveal of Ghosta

Christian Atallah

Modern camera drones allow for a new type of "reveal" - the shot a pilot gets descending through the clouds to a scene which either suddenly or gradually becomes visible once a low enough altitude is reached.  This video by AirVuz contributor and drone pilot Christian Atallah is a great example of a drone reveal.  It was filmed with a DJI Mavic 2 Zoom over the Lebanese town of Ghosta.  The town lies just inland (east) from the country's mid-Mediterranean coastline, in the Mt. Lebanon Governate.
