Dahrolamir created this epic drone video of Kuala Lampur, the great Malaysian capital city.  It opens with an amazing shot of two of the landmark structures in the city: the Kuala Lampur communications tower (foreground), built in 1991, and the Exchange 106 tower (background), which will become KL's tallest building when completed in 2019.   You'll also see some other footage (both day and night) of the impressive KL skyline including its iconic Petronas Towers, the tallest in the world for a time.

Malaysia - A Cinematic from Above


Malaysian drone pilot Kakikujalanjalan wanted to create an aerial reel of some of his best footage of Malaysia, the great Southeast Asian nation.  Malaysia is split into two parts - the southern end of the Malay Peninsula and the island of Borneo, which is shared with Indonesia.  The video is a spectacular aerial collage from across the country.  Watch it and be taken from the skyscrapers of Kuala Lampur to the spectacular resort towns and the mountains of the interior.

The Sarawak River runs through the western part of Malaysian Borneo, the portion of Malaysia which is shared with its neighbor Indonesia (the other portion sitting on the Malay Peninsula).  While the Sarawak is a modest 120 km (75 mi) long, it is an important source of water to the area.  In this video, top contributor and pilot Nava flew his drone over the river at dusk, when the sun turns the river to a brilliant yellow color.  The bird's eye view of this phenomenon is breathtaking.

Malaysia is one of the world's largest countries of the Islam faith.  Depending on estimates, it's in the top 20-25 countries in terms of practitioners of the world's largest faith, and that means lots of prominent mosques.  The Federal Territory Mosque lies in the center of Kuala Lumpur.  Completed in 2000, the mosque is an architectural marvel.  In this video, contributor Kakikujalanjalanflies over this magnificent looking building, whose blue spires are now one of the most distinctive sights of KL.

The city of Malacca lies in the southwestern region of peninsular Malaysia, in a state of the same name.  A very old city, Malacca is the home of many important Malaysian cultural and historical sites.  Given that Muslim is the majority religion in Malaysia (a country with a population of nearly 35 million as of 2018), the cityscape of Malacca features numerous beautiful mosques.  In this video, contributor Jeremy1975 flies his drone over the Melaka Straits Mosque, built on a man-made lake.

Langkawi is an archipelago of about 100 islands sitting off of peninsular Malaysia, in the Andaman Sea.  The islands lie close to Thailand, which lies to their northwest.  These islands have become a popular tourist spot in recent years, with travelers seeking their white sand beaches and spectacular surrounding waters.   Contributor Kakikujalanjalan used a drone to create this amazing aerial view of these equatorial islands.

Much of Malaysia's land area of 330k square km (about 127k square mi.) is tropical rainforest.  The interior of both peninsular Malaysia and Malaysian Borneo is covered by dense jungle, covering hundreds of thousands of square km.  In this video, contributor  Kakikujalanjalan flew his drone over the area around Bukit Gambang in peninsular Malaysia to create this epic view of the dense rainforest in this equatorial wonderland in the heart of Southeast Asia.

A town on the island of Borneo, Semporna is a base town for tourists wanting to snorkel or scuba dive off Sipadan Island. Historically, it was a popular destination for pirates which dominated some of the islands until as recently as the late 1800's. You won't see any pirates in this aerial video by dimasdiga, just plenty of glorious, aerial views of the Malaysian island town.  Malaysia is split between a portion which lies on the Malay Peninsula and another on the nortnern part of Borneo.

Land Below the Wind (Islands of Sabah, Malaysia)


Sabah sits near the northern end of the gigantic island of Borneo.  The island, which is the third largest in the world and covers a land area of over 740k square km (287k square mi.), is split between Malaysia and Indonesia.  While Sabah sits on the Malaysian side, the landscape appeals much more Indonesian.  It has many islands lying offshore, many of which are picked up in this amazing drone video by contributor Jack Shirley: Sulug, Manukan, Mabul, Pom Pom and Sibuan.

The ascent of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia to its current world city status would have been impossible without massive investment in public transportation.  In this video by Kakikujalanjalan, you'll get an aerial glimpse of the KTM Komuter commuter railway, which operates in and around this metropolitan area of nearly 7 million.  The trains carry approximately 40 million passengers per year as of 2018; without them the great city would have seen its growth constricted by traffic congestion.

Check out this drone video from one of the lesser known parts of Malaysia, compliments of contributor FlyingAyam.  It was shot in the state of Terengganu, which lies in the northeast corner of the Malay portion of this Southeast Asian nation, roughly opposite the capital city Kuala Lampur. Here are some of the areas featured in the video: the Bakau Tinggi protected mangrove forest, Pengkalan Cicar, Bukit Kuang, and the Geliga Slipway Shipyard at Chukai River in Kemaman.

Kuala Terengganu Drawbridge


Contributor FlyingAm created this beautiful aerial video of a brand new drawbridge in Malaysia.  The bridge is located in the city of Kuala Terengganu.  KT is the capital of the state of Terengganu, a state in the northeast corner of peninsular Malaysia.  The bridge, one of the first in Southeast Asia, has a total length of just under 200 meters (about 640 ft.).  The bridge, completed in early 2019, connects a district of Kuala Terengganu and Seberang Takir.

The Historical City of Malacca, Malaysia


Malacca is a city in southern Malaysia.  It's situated on the eponymously named strait, and is the capital of the State of Malacca.  While the city is now only a fraction of the size of Kuala Lampur (which lies to its south), Malacca is the far older of the two cities.  It was the center of Portuguese and later Dutch rule of much of Southeast Asia, and at one time was one of the most important port cities in all of Asia.  Check out this aerial video of historic Malacca, compliments of contributor dronedoodle.

Contributor Discmo created this beautiful drone video of an important mountain in southern Malaysia.  Mt. Ophir is situated in the state of Johor, the southernmost of the states on the peninsular portion of the country.  The mountain has a peak elevation of around 1.3k meters (around 4.2k ft.).  The mountain is tied to a story in local folklore about a princess with magical powers, and it is thought that at one point the mountain was the source of some gold and silver deposits.

Check out this amazing drone video of an important island in Malaysia, compliments of contributor kakikujalanjalan.  Manukan Island is located in the state of Sabah, which occupies the eastern end of the Borneo portion of Malaysia.  Manukan is part of the Tunku Abdul Rahman National Park, which covers five islands in this area.  The island is accessible by public speedboat from the port of Kota Kinabalu on the "mainland" on the world's third largest island by land area.
