Kumbhalgarh is one of India's most famous fortresses.  It's located in the Aravalli Mountains in the western part of the country.  Kumbahalgarh was built in the 15th century on the orders of the ruler of Mewar, a kingdom which covered the southern part of what is now the state of Rajasthan.  Its perimeter walls run for 36 km (about 22 mi.), making it one of the largest fortress complexes in the world.  Seen from above in this excellent drone video by Discover India, it's part of a UNESCO World Heritage site known as the Hill Forts of Rajasthan.

The Indian state of Rajasthan is the territory of a much older kingdom called Marwar, which existed as an independent state from the 13th century until the formation of the modern state of India in 1947.  One of the cultural relics of the kingdom is a mausoleum called  Jaswant Thada.  Seen here in this drone video by sphereview, the structure was built in the then-ruler Marwar around the turn of the 20th century.  It's located in the city of Jodhpur, the capital the erstwhile Marwar capital and now Rajasthan's #2 city.

The Lake Palace is one of the top attractions in the Indian city of Udaipur, known as the City of Lakes.  It's situated on an island in Lake Pichola, an artificial lake here in this important city in the northwestern state of Rajasthan.  The palace was built in the mid-1700's as a summer residence for the rulers of Mewar, one of India's former princely states.  The palace was one of the key filming locations in the 1983 James Bond film, Octopussy: it was here that 007 (played by Roger Moore) meets his ally-to-be.  The palace is now a luxury hotel.

Chittorgarh Fort is one of the most famous fortresses in India and indeed the world.  It's situated in the southeastern part of Rajasthan, India's westernmost state.  Dating to the 7th century AD, the fortress served as the capital of the Mewar Kingdom, one of the princely states which eventually allied with the British Raj against the Mughal Empire prior to Indian independence.  Seen in this excellent drone video by Man Meets the World, Chittorgargh is the largest of the six Rajasthan hill forts in a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Here's a fascinating drone video of an important city in India during the Covid-19 quarantine in the Spring of 2020.  AirVuz contributor GunjGuglani1 filmed the city of Gurugram (also called Gurgaon), which lies in the north-central state of Haryana, on the border with the National Capital Territory of Delhi.  One of India's leading banking and financial centers, it's known as one of the country's richest cities.  Like most of the giant country, the city was put under a community quarantine to combat the spread of the deadly novel coronavirus.

Check out this fantastic aerial view of the Indian city of Indore during the Covid-19 pandemic in the Spring of 2020, compliments of AIrVuz contributor RG Aerial Imaging.  Indore is the largest city in Madhya Pradesh, one of the states near the center of this vast country.  The 500+ year old city arose by virtue of its geographic position between the Deccan Plateau and the city of Delhi to the north.  Like most of India, Indore was subject to increasingly stringent social distancing measures to combat the spread of the deadly coronavirus.

Here's a great drone-lapse sequence from one of the most well-known spots in Mumbai, India, compliments of Drone Dost.  Marine Drive is a promenade which runs for about 3.6 km (a bit over 2 mi.) along a body of water known as Back Bay, just south of central Mumbai.  It's also sometimes called Subhas Chandra Bose Road, in memory of the fiery Indian nationalist who died shortly before India achieved independence from the British Empire in 1947.  The real estate here is amongst the most expensive in Mumbai.

Former DVOW Finalist TravelPenguin brings us this stunning drone video of the great Indian city of Jodhpur, the second-largest city in the western state of Rajasthan.  Most of the first part of the video was shot over Jaswant Thada, a cenotaph (a type of tomb) on the city's northern outskirts.  The rest of the video was shot over the city's main attraction: the giant hilltop fortress of Mehrangarh.  Built in the 15th century, this landmark was used as a principal filming location for the 2012 Batman movie the Dark Knight Rises.

Check out this drone video of a celebration at one of India's largest mosques, compliments of AirVuz contributor and pilot GunjGuglaqni1.  The video was shot during the post-Ramadan Eid al-Fitr festival over the Jama Masjid Mosque in Delhi, the national capital territory.  The mosque was built in the mid-17th century on the orders of Shah Jahan, considered one of the greatest of the Mughal Emperors.  Distinguished by its three domes and two minarets, the mosque's great courtyard is capable of holding up to 25,000 people.

Take in these drone views of an epic Yoga Day celebration atop a historic hill fort in the heart of India.  Gwalior Fortress is located near its namesake town in Madhya Pradesh, the giant state which covers much of the geographic center of India.  The fortress originally dates to at least the 10th century AD, and possibly even earlier.  The "modern" part of the complex, which consists of two palaces and surrounding fortifications, dates to around 1500.  These were built on the orders of the ruler of the Rajput dynasty Tomaras of Gwalior.

Contributor and drone pilot Travelogueone created this lovely aerial video of a town on India's western coastline.  Dapoli is situated on the Arabian Sea in the state of Maharashta.  It's in the Ratnagiri district, about 215 km (about 135 mi.) south of the great city of Mumbai.  In Colonial times, it was a military camp, and it's the burial place of many British officers.   In the video, you will get a visual sense of the countryside of Maharashta, which is the second most populous state in the country.

Prepare to be amazed by this incredible drone video of a giant flock of pink flamingoes near Mumbai, India, compliments of AirVuz contributor and pilot calvin nadar.  The video was shot during the Covid-19 "lockdown" in the first half of 2020, when social distancing measures forced most of India's human population indoors while allowing some of its human-avoiding wildlife to flourish.  That's what happened here in the area of Navi Mumbai, a planned city just south of central Mumbai in the western state of Maharashta.

Bhopal is one of the most important cities in central India. It's the capital of the state of Madhya Pradesh, near the geographic center of this massive country.  Home to several large lakes, it's sometimes called the City of Lakes, a name which also applied to the western city of Udaipur.  Bhopal city was founded in the early 1700's by a Mughal general as the capital of the State of Bhopal, which eventually became one of the princely states.  Check out the great city from above in this drone video by new contributor Justin Shareef.

The "star" of this drone video by travelogist is Chitrakote Falls, one of the best-known waterfalls in India.  It's located on the Indravati River in the Bastar District of Chhattisgarh, a landlocked state in the east-central part of the country.  With modest drop of just under 30 meters (95 ft.) it's known as the widest waterfall in the country.  The video also includes footage of other waterfalls in the region, notably the Teerathgarh Falls, which falls 91 meters (just under 300 ft.) on a single drop.

Check out this drone video of an important landmark in western India, compliments of AirVuz contributor and pilot sphereview.  The Toorji Ka Jhalra Bavdi is what is known as a stepwell, a pond or well surrounded by steps which is seen throughout much of western India and Pakistan.  It's located in Jodhpur, the second-largest city in the state of Rajasthan (after Jaipur) and the former capital of the Kingdom of Marwar.  Dating to 1740, this landmark is one of the most intricately designed stepwells in India.

For a first upload to AirVuz, brand-new contributor surajFPVv brings us this excellent first person view (FPV) drone video of a fascinating ancient ruins site in western India.  It's called the Panchkunda Ki Chatris, and it consists of a set of 46 cenotaphs (empty tombs) in Jodhpur, the second-largest city in the state of Rajasthan.  The site is just a few mi/km from the better-known fortress which stands above the city.  This video was picked for the FPV Pilots to Watch list in October, 2022.
