London can lay claim to being the world's single most important city over the last 500 years.  Today, it's one of just two cities designated as Alpha ++ Cities by the respected GWCRN.  Contributor AlexJS used a drone to create this epic aerial tour of his hometown, the UK's capital on the Thames River. This aerial tour includes everything: Tower Bridge, Palace of Westminster, and the London Eye.  Sit back and enjoy the aerial views of this magnificent metropolis, host city of the 2012 Summer Olympics.

Contributor CH Drone created this amazing aerial video of London's Tower Bridge, one of the world's most iconic spans.  Like the older London Bridge, it crosses the Thames River, the waterway which gave rise to the great city on its banks.  Tower Bridge was built in the late 19th century when the growth of the City of London necessitated a second bridge (although technically its northern end is not in the City).  The bridge was prominently featured when London hosted the Summer Olympics in 2012.

Hammersmith: West London Borough

Check out this drone video of the fashionable West London district of Hammersmith, compliments of MariusMiginis.  The video captures some rowers on the River Thames, which marks the district's southwestern boundary.  It also features some excellent footage of the Hammersmith Bridge, which connects Hammersmith to the Richmond Borough on the river's south bank.  Completed in 1887, it has a length of 210 meters or 700 ft.  In April of 2019, the bridge was closed to motor traffic due to structural weakness, pending repairs.

Contributor HUMZZ created this amazing drone video of the dramatically changed skyline of modern London, a city which didn't have a single building over 600 ft. (about 183 meters) until 1991.  Now, there are clusters of much taller structures on either side of the Thames River.  For example, at the :40 mark, you'll get a dramatic eye-level view of the 95 story Shard tower.  At 310 meters (just over 1k ft.), it's the tallest building in the United Kingdom and the tallest in Europe ouside of Russia.

Greenwich Park and Old Royal Naval College

Scenes from Greenwich Park, London, UK by

AirVuz contributor and drone pilot GlobalAirMedia brings us this excellent aerial view of London's Greenwich Park.  The park is situated just south of the great "U" shape formed by the River Thames immediately downstream from the London Docklands.  Once a hunting ground for the Kings of England, it's one of the city's Royal Parks.  The video features footage of the park itself as well as the University of Greenwich, formerly the Old Royal Naval College, which sits immediately to the north of the park.

London is one of the world's most difficult cities in which to fly a drone.  That's why most drone videos of the great UK capital city generally incorporate both aerial and ground camera footage.  This piece by AirVuz contributor and pilot obnas4k is a great example of this type of air-ground tour.  Opening with a shot of one of the great country estates outside of the city, followed by a shot of the Victorian-era Tower Bridge over the River Thames.  The video also features excellent timelapse sequences of London's busy roads and paths.

Abbey Road

Drone Eye ...

Check out this drone video of one of the most iconic spots in London, compliments of Drone Eye Perspective.  It's the southern end of Abbey road, just northwest of Regents' Park.  It was here that the four members of the Beatles led by a white-suited John Lennon were photographed walking across the street away from their recording studio; the picture was used on the cover the Abbey Road album, the last to be produced by all four Beatles.  The recording studio, subsequently renamed Abbey Road Studios, is now part of Universal Music.

Dirty Dish...

Cinewhoop micro-drones - small first person view (FPV) quads with ducted propellers and HD cameras - are finding all sorts of applications where "traditional" aerial videography platforms such as the DJI Mavic series encounter obstacles.  One recent development is the use of these micro-quads over street protests and demonstrations.  This video by Dirty Dishes FPV is a great example; he filmed a large, peaceful demonstration in London that occurred in the wake of the killing of an unarmed Black man by police in the USA in late May, 2020.
