China is the world's fourth largest country by land area and is larger than the continental United States by that measure. While it's the world's largest country by population, that population is highly concentrated in its coastal provinces. The vast majority of the country's land area is in its inland provinces, which are far less densely populated. Provinces like Yunnan, Sichuan, and Hunan in the south are home to some of the country's most spectacular scenery, including some of the highest mountains in the world. In the north, inland provinces like Ningxia, and Gansu also have some mountains but also feature deserts as well as a number of important historical cities.
