The Black Sea area is an important crossroads, it connects Eastern Europe, Southeastern Europe, the Caucasus region, and the Middle East. About one-sixth the size of the Mediterranean Sea, it is connected to that body of water (and thence to the Atlantic Ocean) via the Bosphorus and Dardanelles straits. The Black Sea is the terminus for some of the most important rivers in Europe, including the Danube, Dneiper, and Don Rivers. Six nations have Black Sea coastline: Bulgaria, Georgia, Romania, Russia, Turkey, and the Ukraine. For all of these except Russia and Turkey, the Black Sea is the sole means of reaching the world's ocean system by ship. Here are the best drone videos from this ancient and mysterious region, home to some of the world's oldest seaports. Aerial photo: Cape Kaliakra, Bulgaria by drone pilot and AirVuz contributor Pristis.

While not as large as the port of Odessa further to the west, Berdyansk is nevertheless an important shipping center in the southern Ukraine, which otherwise lacks access to the sea. In this video, contributor and pilot Daniilsamoilenko uses a DJI Phantom 3 drone to do an epic selfie pull out shot revealing the red sand beach and the blue sea water behind it.

For centuries, the Black Sea was the world's most important body of water for shipping. While that is no longer the case, the great inland sea remains very significant, and is the only water path to the open ocean (via the Bosphorus Strait and then the Mediterranean) for four different countries. The largest port on the great sea is Constanta, in Romania's Dobrogea region. In this video, Claboo Media gives us a drone's eye view of this extremely modern seaport, part of a city which dates to 600 BC.

In 2014, in a controversial vote, Crimea elected to secede from the Ukraine and join Russia. It's considered amongst the most naturally beautiful areas in Eastern Europe.

What does a top beach resort on the Black Sea look like in the winter? Find out with this drone video from contributor Mariansterea. He flew his drone over the resort area of Mamaia, a beach town in Romania's Dobrogea region which lies along the Black Sea. Mamaia is situated a bit north of Constanta, the site of Romania's largest port (indeed, the largest port on the Black Sea) and the largest city in the Dobrogea region. This popular beach area seems eerily abandoned in this video, shot in the depths of winter.

In this video, you will get a bird's eye view of the frozen Azov Sea, compliments of contributor and pilot danielsamoilenko. The video was filmed around the Ukrainian port of Berdyansk.
