The Transylvania region of Romania, located in the center of the country (on the Transylvanian Plateau) and surrounded by the Carpathian Mountains, may be best known as the setting of the tale of Dracula. Beyond vampires though, it is one of the richest cultural regions in Eastern Europe.  In this drone video by contributor Zdroneu, you willl be treated to bird's eye views of Bran Castle (of Dracula fame), Crovin Castle, Brasnov, Rasnov, and Peleś.


Transylvania, Romania


The reputed home of Count Dracula, Transylvania is a large province covering much of northwestern Romania.  Transylvania was part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, electing to join Romania after World War I.  A mountainous land full of stunning medieval castles, it is home to some of the country's most amazing scenery and cultural sites.  Contributor Alexgaflig used a drone to create a marvelous portrait of this magical piece of ground in the heart of Eastern Europe.

Frame Hunters Media created this epic drone video of a well preserved town in Romania's Transylvania.  Sighisoara is a small city in the middle of the Great Transylvania Plateau, the flat elevated area which is mostly surrounded by various Carpathian Mountain ranges.  The town was settled in the 12th century by Germans invited by the then King of Hungary, which ruled the region at the time.  The extraordinarily well preserved city is designated as a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Prepare to be amazed by this drone video created by Frame Hunters Media while climbing one of the highest mountain peaks in Romania.  Mt. Pelegea is the tallest mountains in the Retezat range, which forms part of the Southern Carpathian Mountains which separate Transylvania from the rest of the country.  The altitude of the peak is about 2.5k meters (about 8.2 ft).  It is situated in the southwest part of the country's Transylvania region.

Frame Hunters Media created this spectacular drone video of the Bucegi Mountains in central Romania.  They are part of the Southern Carpathians, which form the dividing line between Wallachia (the core of modern Romania) and Transylvania to its north.  Their highest peak, Mt. Omu, is one of the tallest in Romania with an elevation of 2.5k meters 9about 8.3k ft).  The Bucegi's are known in part for their spectacular rock formations, caused by extensive wind and rain erosion.


Prahova Valley


Contributor Mihaiflorea used a DJI Phantom 3 drone to create this remarkable aerial tour of the Prahova Valley, a scenic alpine valley in the Carpathian Mountains in the Wallachia (Montenia) region of Romania.  The Prahova Valley is created by the junction of the Eastern and Southern Carpathian Mountains, and it serves to connect Wallachia with Transylvania to the north.  The video contains epic bird's eye views of some of the highlights of the region, including Pele's Castle.


This is Bucovina - Romania

George Moldovan

Bucovina is part of the region of Moldavia in Eastern Europe, running north from the Eastern Carpathian Mountains.  It was once entirely within the borders of Romania but the northern part of it was taken by the Soviet Union before World War II and is now part of the Ukraine.  Contributor George Moldovan created a brilliant video of the Romanian portion of Bucovina, a mountainous pastoral land replete with impressive baronial estates and medieval churches and monasteries.


Black Seamphony


The western Black Sea in Eastern Europe is shared by Romania, Bulgaria, and the Ukraine.  The sea is of considerable importance to Romania, providing it with a waterway to the Mediterranean and thereby to the world beyond Europe.  In this amazing drone video, contributor Mariansterea give us an aerial tribute to the Romanian Black Sea coastline, home to some of the most popular tourist spots in the country as well as the busy seaport of Constanta, the largest port on the Black Sea.


Cheile Bicazului, Romania


Contributor ChrisCross created this stunning drone video of a massive gorge in the Moldavia region of northeastern Romania.  Bicaz Gorge (Cheile Bicazului) was created by the Bicaz River, which eventually flows into the Danube and thence to the Black Sea.  One of the most popular rock climbing sites in Eastern Europe, it is situated near the border with the neighboring region Transylvania to the west.  The gorge is now part of the Cheile Bicazului-Hășmaș National Park.


Bran Castle - "The Visit Of Dracula" (Aerial Drone)


Transylvania is forever associated with a fictional "vampire" from a famous late 19th century novel called Dracula.  The character is loosely based on Vlad the Impaler, a medieval nobleman known for his cruelty.  The castle most closely linked to the Dracula legend is Bran Castle, which is located right at the border between the regions of Wallachia and Transylvania.  In this epic drone video by Fabriziob you'll get a bird's eye view of the famous Carpathian castle.


Romania-Transylvania, Land of the Carpathians


The core of the Romania's Transylvania region is the Transylvanian Plateau, which is more or less surrounded by various groupings or divisions of the Carpathian Mountains.  The mountains produce the other core feature of Transylania, a series of rivers which ultimately drain into the Danube and thence to the Black Sea.  Contributor PaulVlad's aerial video of this land shows its connection to these great mountains and rivers.  


The best road in the world - Transfagarasan Romania


One of the most well recognized sights in the  Carpathian Mountain region is the Transfagarasan, a road which passes between the two highest mountains of Romania.  It is one of the links between the Transylvania region and the Wallachia region to its south.  Though it was only built in the 1970's, its crazy winding pattern has captured the imagination of aerial photographers.  In this video, Adrian87 brings us bird's eye views of this incredible 90 km (56 mi) alpine road.
