The Corno alle Scale (1,945 m asl) is a mountain of the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines, located in the municipality of Lizzano in Belvedere, with the northern slope and the summit included entirely in the area of the metropolitan city of Bologna, which constitutes the highest altitude and part of the southern slope included instead in the province of Pistoia. The name derives from the singular shape of the northern wall, consisting of a series of rocky ramped ridges.Versante Est - overlooks the province of Bologna and is part of the Reno river basin through its tributary Silla: its waters then lead into the Adriatic Sea . The slope is very impervious and features an almost vertical rocky cliff face, especially the northernmost part under Punta Sofia, called "Balzi dell'Ora", which borders on Mount La Nuda. This wall of about 1000 m is not found in any other Apennine orographic formation, except in Abruzzo. West side - is the least impervious of the 3, presenting with gibbos covered with grasslands above 1,500 m. It overlooks the province of Modena and houses all the ski resort facilities for winter sports and several tourist trails for summer trekking for all ages. It is part of the Po basin through the tributary Leo torrent of the Dardagna which in turn co-generates the Panaro, the last right-hand tributary of the long Italian river whose waters lead into the Adriatic. South slope - very steep, overlooking the province of Pistoia and is part of the Serchio river basin through the stream that flows into the Lima River affluent of the river of Lucca. The waters then flow into the Tyrrhenian sea
