Punta San Viglilio - Garda Lake - February 2025 Owned by the Guarienti counts of Brenzone; here the extreme edge of Mount Baldo plunges into the lake and forms a peninsula that closes the Gulf of Garda to the northwest. It is the point that protrudes most into the water after the Sirmione peninsula. On the northern side of the peninsula is the Baia delle Sirene, a natural park with a bathing beach. In this area, several testimonies from the Bronze Age have been found, a sign that it was already populated in prehistoric times. For example, weapons and rock carvings with hunting themes have been found, which can now be visited and are cared for by the WWF. In Roman times, however, there was a small temple consecrated to Benaco, a pagan deity, of which only a tombstone kept at the Museo Lapidario Maffeiano in Verona has survived to the present day.
