France's Famed Riviera
While there is no universally agreed upon definition, the French Riviera (Cote d'Azur) is generally defined as the Mediterranean coastline of the southeastern corner of France. The Cote d'Azur lies within the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region, which extends northward into the Alps. French RC used a DJI Phantom 3 Pro drone to create this spectacular aerial tour of the French Riviera, the super-rich playground which was the world's first vacation destination.
Treasures of the French Pyrenees
Ariege is a section of the Occitanie region in the southern part of France, near the border with Spain. It is part of the mountainous Pyrennes region which straddles the two countries. In this video, contributor Amaury Descours treats us to aerial views of some of the spectacular sites of the French Pyrennes, including Montsegur, Devil’s Bridge, and Roquefixade. The Heart of the French Riviera

France's Basque Country
The Basque people of southwestern Europe have a highly distinct culture, which evolved in partial isolation from those of neighbors Spain and France by virtue of unusual geographical factors. While the heart of the region is in northern Spain, a portion reaches into southwestern France. Bormes-les-Mimosas: Western French Riviera
Jturner used a DJI Mavic Pro drone to create this spectacular aerial look at an idyllic spot at the western end of the French Riviera. Bormes-les-Mimosas is a small town on the French Mediterranean coastline. It is situated to the west of the more well known towns such as St. Tropez, Cannes, and Nice. As you'll see in the video, it is a charming village set on a hilltop in France's glorious Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region, which covers all of southeastern France.
Bordeaux: France's Great Atlantic Seaport
This aerial video of Bordeaux, France was created by Morgo87 using a DJI Mavic Pro drone. In addition to being the unofficial wine capital of the world, Bordeaux is the largest city in southwestern France and the center of its sixth largest metropolitan area overall. It is situated in the Garonne department, which is part of the giant Nouvelle Aquitaine region. Bordeaux lies near the mouth of the Garonne River, the most important river in southwestern France.
The Beautiful Pyrenees in France
The Pyrennes Mountains serve as the border between France and Spain, two of the first true nation-states. While the Pyrenees peaks lack the altitude of the Alps, the region is nonetheless spectacular, with mountain peaks exceeding 3k meters (about 11k ft.), lush valleys, and spectacular rock formations. Contributor LeVoyagedesKoumoul treats us to an aerial tour of this region, which separates what were the two most powerful countries in the world for a time.
Adventurer Takes on the French Riviera
Top contributor Isabelle Fabre headed to the French Riviera to make one of her trademarked adventure-drone videos. The video alternates between scenes from the rocky coastal hills of the Cote d'Azur, and the blue waters of the the Mediterrean. These are her playgrounds, the former for running and mountain biking, and the latter for some epic kiteboarding and some relaxation on a paddleboard. Calanque D'en Vau: Treasure of Provence
A calanque is a small bay, or inlet with steep sides, much like a fjord; in this particular instance, Calanque D'en Vau, found in the Provence region in south France, shows off it's edges against the clear blue water. This special spot along the Mediterranean, with it's bright white limestone serving as a backdrop, provided the perfect place for AirVuz contributor duminciucbogdan to catch a 'dronie' with his friends (clearly the perfect way to remember this charming destination, only accessible by boat or durable shoe!)
French Riviera: Windsurfing Paradise
The Mediterranean waters of the French Riviera are ideal for many water activities, windsurfing being one of the standouts. The moderate surf, steady winds, and spectacular scenery have drawn some of the top windsurfers from around the world. In this video, top professional windsurfer Cyril Moussilmani, who hails from Marseille, is filmed by AirVuz contributor and drone pilot RikDingo, who has made a specialty of using drones to aerially capture this thrilling sport.
France's Famous Pont du Gard Bridge
Contributor Juliendrone created this beautiful video of the Pont du Gard, one of the world's most well known aquaduct bridges. It spans the Gardon River in the Gard District of Southern France. It was built in the first century AD to provide water to the nearby city of Nimes. The world's highest elevated aquaduct, the 275 meter (900 ft.) stone bridge was designated as a World Heritage site by UNESCO in 1985. The stone structure was last known to be used in the 6th century.
Yachting in France's St. Tropez
Contributor AurelBaud brought a drone along on a yacht cruise on the French Riviera and created this amazing video from the experience. The video opens with an amazing shot of the legendary port of St. Tropez, which was the port from where the Mangusta 82 was launched. From there, you will follow along like a bird flying over the stunningly beautiful Cote d'Azur, the world's first true vacation beach spot, and the aquatic activities of the rich and famous who frequent here.

It features bird's eye views of the village of Roquebrune-Cap-Martin, Eze Village, the Gorges du Verdon, and Lac de Ste. Croix. It finishes in the town of Antibes with an amazing aerial of the star-shaped Fort Carré. Fort Carré is best known for its appearance in the 1983 James Bond film Never Say Never Again, #15 in the series and the last in which Sean Connery played 007.
Village of Provence
The charming villages of southern France feature stacked stone houses, clocktowers, old churches, narrow streets, and breathtaking views of the forested Maritime Alps. In this short video, drone pilot and AirVuz contributor Phildrone shot incredible footage of the village of Bonson, found in Provence; his aerial views - replete with rolling clouds - captured the old-world charm enjoyed by locals and visitors alike. Provence is the historical region which covers most of southeastern France.
Magnificent Cathedral of Marseille
Contributor CHDTNBN created this beautiful drone video of the Cathédrale Sainte-Marie-Majeure, one of the most well known landmark in the largest city of Southern France. It was constructed in the mid-19th century, on the ruins of a church on the same site which had dated to the 12th century. The port city of Marseille is the capital of the Bouches-du-Rhône district. It is the second largest city proper in France, and as a metropolitan area it's third after Paris and Lyon.
Princehamlet created this beautiful drone video of Notre-Dame de la Garde, the most well known landmark in the southern French city of Marseille. Built on a rocky outcrop, it has a commanding view of the country's second largest city (third largest metro area). The cathedral was consecrated in 1864 but not finished for another decade. The cathedral is the site of an Assumption Day pilgrimmage, and is the most visited site in this Mediterranean port city.
Italian Sports Car on the French Riviera
Located on the Mediterranean Sea, the French Riviera has been a resort destination since the end of the 18th century when British, Russian, and other aristocrats made it their vacation getaway of choice. Its no surprise that aerial filmmaker ZilverSchmitz chose the destination as a backdrop for this cinematic edit featuring one of the most glamorous cars around, the Bugatti Chiron. French Riviera: Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat
Drone_biker created this beautiful drone video of Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat in Southern France. It's located on the eastern end of the French Riviera, roughly midway between Monaco and Nice. Like much of this stretch of the Mediterranean Sea, it's very old, very beautiful, and very very expensive. The list of people who have lived here ranges from King Leopold II of Belgium to the actor/actress couple Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor, among many other international luminaries.
Crussol: Castle of Southern France
Frantac-Channel-France gives us this beautiful drone's eye view of Crussol Castle, one of the more important such structures in Southern France. Like many French castle, it was built on the site of an old Roman hilltop fort. The castle, which dates to the 12th century, is made mostly of limestone. It's located near the town of Saint-Péray, in the Ardèche department of the country's Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. Thje castle is classified as a National Monument of France.
Les Corbières: Foothills of the Pyrenees
Contributor Imagoo created this beautiful drone video of Les Corbières, a small mountain range in southwestern France. The mountains are essentially foothills of the Pyrenees Mountains, which form the border between France and Spain. The highest peak in the range has an elevation of just over 1.2k meters (just over 4k ft.) above sea level. In contrast to the extensive foothills on the southern (Spanish) side of the Pyrenees, these are the only foothill mountains on the French side.
Drone Tour of the South of France
DRone used a DJI Mavic Air drone to create this magnificent video of Southern France. The country's long Mediterranean coastline includes some of the most desirable spots in Europe, some of which you'll see hear from a bird's eye perspective. The video features footage of the Côte d'Azur (the French Riviera, or eastern stretch of the coast, some spots in inland Provence, as well as some epic bird's eye views of Porquerolles (an island off the Riviera). It was filmed in July, 2018.
France's Amazing Sand Dunes
Abstract Aerial Art created this stunning drone video of Dune du Pilat, the tallest sand dunes in Europe. It's located on the country's western (Atlantic) Coast in the province of Nouvelle-Aquitaine, a short drive of the Atlantic port city of Bordeaux. The dune currently reaches a height of 110 meters (around 350 ft.) above sea level. It's a popular paragliding spot, and is one of the top tourist destinations in southwestern France. The dune is comprised of an incredible 60 million cubic meters of sand.
Aerial Tour of Pyrénées-Orientales
Imagoo created this stunning drone videos of the Pyrenees Mountains in Southern France. The area filmed is the Pyrénées-Orientales, a department which occupies the very southern tip of mainland France. It adjoins the Catalonia region of northeastern Spain, whose interior is also covered by the Pyrenees and its foothills. As you'll see, the area features marvelous mountain views as well as some epic bird's eye shots of the Mediterranean Sea.
Aerial Tour of Bouches-du-Rhône
Contributor Aenaria Production created this beautiful drone video from the Bouches-du-Rhône department of Southern France. The department is part of the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region, which covers the southeastern portion of the country. The video features gorgeous aerial shots of Marseille, the prefecture of the department and the largest city in the region. It also includes footage of the Montagne Sainte-Victoire mountains, a small chain situated north of the great port city.
Èze: Overlooking the French Mediterranean
In this video, contributor phildrone does a marvelous job of aerially capturing the sunrise over a beautiful town in the South of France. Èze is located in the heart of the French Riviera, between Nice and Monaco. The city is famous for its hilltop, which affords some of the most captivating views of the Mediterranean Sea to be had in the region. In earlier times, the city played an important role in the various political and military struggles which run through the early modern history of Southern France.
France's Mighty Rhône River
The Rhône is the most important river of Southern France. While it isn't quite as long as the Loire River, it is easily the country's largest by discharge volume. The river rises in the Alps and flows westwards and southwards, eventually splitting into two rivers (the Great Rhône and Little Rhône) and creating a large delta in the Comarge region before ending in the Mediterranean. In this drone video by contributor Najibk, you'll get a look at the mighty waterway as it makes its way through the countryside.
