Check out this magnificent drone video of Ghent, Belgium by AirVuz contributor in*motion.  Located on the Scheldt River in the (northern) Flanders region, Ghent rose to prominence during the High Middle Ages as one of the 2-3 most important commercial centers in Europe, and the largest city north of Paris.  The video features outstanding aerial footage of the most well-known spots in this cultural treasure, including the Saint Bavo Cathedral, the Saint-Nicholas Church, the Belfry, the Gravensteen Castle, and the old Graslei harbour.

Belgian contributor and pilot Kelly's Heroes created an instant drone video classic with this amazing film, which was created to help promote the Comic Arts Museum and Hotel in Ghent, the great medieval city in the country's Flanders region. It tells a human story, set against a beautiful backdrop of the Benelux landscape of plains intermixed with hills.  The video combines both elements beautifully, and it was nominated for the Drone Video of the Week Award in one of the contest's first weeks.

Created by the Belgian contributor Kelly's Heroes, "Drift" is a short that tells the story of a young boy named Oscar and his imaginary friend.  The film uses a drone photography technique that the creator calls Anamorphic retrozooms, which can only be understood by watching the film.  Suffice to say it's an extremely creative use of the power of the modern drone to make incredible content.  This video was chosen as a finalist for the first annual AirVuz Drone Video Awards in the Originality category.

Contributor andn pilot Mrgilchen created this aerial tour of Dinant, a small town in Belgium which was the site of a famous atrocity in the first weeks of World War I.   When Germany invaded France through Belgium in August, 1914, the fortress at Dinant on the Meuse River represented a formidable obstacle.  Following a hard-fought battle, German troops are alleged to have executed hundreds of civilians here, an act which helped to inflame anti-German public opinion in both Allied and Neutral countries.

Contributor Bartreding used a DJI Mavic Air drone to create this aerial tour of Leuven (Louvain), Belgium.  It's the capital of the province of Flemish Brabant in the middle of the country.  This medieval town is home to KU Leuven, the oldest university in the Low Countries.  Leuven was the site of an infamous atrocity at the outset of World War I, when invading German soldiers pillaged the town, killing hundreds and burning over 230,000 volumes at the university's library.  The incident shocked world opinion.

Contributor c13studio brings us this amazing drone's eye view of the medieval town of Bruges, Belgium.  Situated in the West Flanders province, Bruges became an important town in the cloth trade during the late Middle Ages, at one point arguably the most important commercial city in Western Europe.  Incredibly well preserved, it's a UNESCO World Heritage cultural site.  Sometimes referred to (along with Amsterdam) as the Venice of the north due to its canals, Bruges was the shooting location of the 2008 film In Bruges.

The city of Liège lies on the banks of the Meuse River in eastern Belgium.  Located in a strategically important spot on the great North European Plain, it's been among the most fought-over land on the continent.  Famously, the mighty fortresses which once surrounded the city held up the German advance into France in the first days of World War I in August, 1914, until they were finally reduced by giant seige guns.  Now a very peaceful but important commercial center, you can see the historic city from above in this drone video by sphereview.

Check out this beautiful drone video of Doel, Belgium, compliments of contributor and pilot barteding.  Doel is situated on the River Scheldt in the province of East Flanders, in the north central part of the country.  Surrounded by sea walls, the well-preserved town dates to the 13th century.  The city is at risk of extinction due to the next planned phase of expansion of the Port of Antwerp, which lies just upstream of Doel and is one of Europe's busiest ports.  This video was filmed using a DJI Mavic Air drone.

Here's a drone's eye view of the Port of Antwerp, Belgium, compliments contributor Bartreding.  Situated about 0 km (around 50 mi.) from the mouth of the River Scheldt, the port handled over 10 million 20 foot equivalent container units (TEU's) in 2017.  That made it the second busiest container port in Europe that year, second only to Rotterdam in the Netherlands.  It's also a major bulk cargo port; measured by total tonnage it's also #2 in Europe.   The video was shot with a DJI Mavic Air drone.

Contributor and pilot Brent De Bleser created this rather haunting drone video of Fort Breendonk, a Belgian fortress in the north-central part of the country.  The fortification was constructed prior to the outbreak of World War I to protect the port of Antwerp, which was eventually overrun by the German Army as part of its invasion of France.  In World War II, Ft. Breendonk was again captured by invading Germans, and developed a fearsome reputation (by Western European standards) as an SS prison camp.

Top contributor and pilot BeemFlights created this amazing drone video of one of the top sights of Brussels, Belgium: the Atomium.  Now a museum, the building was originally built in connection with the World Expo that was held here in 1958.  The landmark is distinguished by its nine stainless steel spheres, each of which is 18 meters (about 60 ft.) in diameter and which represent atoms of the element iron. The Atomium situated on the Heysel Plateau in the northern part of Belgium's largest city.

Contributor Bartreding used a DJI Mavic Air drone to create this aerial video of an important town in the East Flanders province of Belgium.  Dendermonde dates to the 13th century, although the city was built on the site of a considerably older fortress.  The city was of considerable military significance during the 80 Years War for Dutch independence, as well as the later struggles to contain the ambitions of France's Louis XIV.  The city is situated on the River Dender, a tributary of the Scheldt.

Contributor bartreding took this fascinating drone vide of Belgium's Fort de la Chartreuse.  It's situated in a district of Liège, the main city in the northeastern corner of Wallonia (the southern part of Belgium).  Sitting at a strategic point in the Meuse River, it occupies some of the most fought-over territory on the European continent.  Abandoned as obsolete in 1891, the forts which replaced it represented some of the world's strongest and inflicted great damage on the invading German Army in 1914.

Oostende, Belgium is the largest city on the Belgian coast.  Founded in the 13th century, this city in West Flanders has played an important role in numerous military conflicts by virtue of its strategic location on the North Sea.  Famously, the city played a key role in the 80 Years War, by which the Netherlands (which included modern day Belgium at the time) gained independence from Spain.  The Seige of Oostende lasted from 1601-04, during which about 80,000 on both sides were killed or wounded.

AirVuz contributor and drone pilot bartreding used a DJI Mavic Air to create this marvelous aerial tour of the Belgian city of Kortrijk.  It's situated on the River Leie, about 42 km (around 26 mi.) southwest of Ghent in the West Flanders province, in the northwestern part of the country.  An old Roman settlement, it has been known for centuries for its weaving industry.  During the High Middle Ages, Kortrijk became one of the richest towns in Flanders, as the northern part of present-day Belgium is known.

Contributor Bartreding used a DJI Mavic Air drone to create this fascinating aerial video of an abandoned power plant in Belgium.  Built in 1921, Power Plant IM is situated in Charleroi, a city in the Hainaut Province in the west-central part of the country.  Originally a coal-fired plant, it was retrofitted in the 1970's to be able to burn natural gas as well.  The plant accounted for 10% of Belgium's CO2 emissions and was closed in 2007 as part of the country's efforts to reduce its carbon footprint.

A port city in Belgium, Antwerp has quite the history; during part of the Middle Ages it was amongst the 2-3 most important cities in the world. In its center lies the Diamond District that has been housing diamond traders for thousands of years. Flemish Renaissance architecture can be seen throughout the city, mixed in with new-age, artistic buildings. Both can be seen in this aerial video by drone pilot bartreding. He flew the DJI Mavic Air to capture shots of the city that lies on the banks of the Scheldt River.

Check out this amazing drone video of a "see through" chapel in Belgium, compliments of top contributor and pilot Brent de Bleser.  The video is entitled "Reading Between the Lines", for reasons which will become obvious when you watch it.  Its appearance depends greatly on the angle at which you are seeing the structure; from most angles it appears to be a "normal" church building.  Built in 2011, the church is in Limbuirg, one of Belgium's Dutch-speaking provinces in the northern part of the country.

Check out this drone video of a rapidly-redeveloping area of Brussels, Belgium, the unofficial capital of the European Union.  It's the area north of the giant Tour & Taxis industrial zone on the west bank of the Brussels Canal.  Access to the canal, which connects the Scheldt River and thence to the North Sea, turned this area into the epicenter of Belgium's rapid industrialization in the late 19th century.  As you'll see in the video by Skyliner, sleek skyscrapers are rapidly replacing the factories and warehouses which once abounded here.

Check out this drone video of a very well known geological site in Belgium, compliments of content creator and pilot bartreding.  The site is called the Fondry of the Dogs (Fondry Des Chiens), and it's a large chasm caused by the action of rain on the limestone which is characteristic of the Calestienne region.  Due to the unique soil conditions created  by the erosion of the limestone, the Fondry is also known for some very unusual fauna species.  The video was filmed with a DJI Mavic Air drone.

Dinant, Belgium sits on the banks of the Meuse River, in the southeastern province of Namur.  Seen here in this drone video by bartreding, the steep cliffs which back the river's western banks gave the city considerable strategic importance and made it much fought-over during the long centuries of European warfare.  Most recently, the famed German General Erwin Rommel earned his stripes by crossing the Meuse here during the early days of Germany's successful blitzkrieg of France in the early months of World War II.

Bruges, Belgium is one of the historical and cultural treasures of Western Europe.  Capital of the West Flanders region, it's connected to the North Sea by a canal system.  Founded in the early 12th century, during the High Middle Ages it came to represent an important junction between the Hanseatic League of North European cities and Southern Europe.  While its fortunes declined after 1500, they revived in the second half of the 19th century as the well-preserved town became one of Europe's first true tourist destinations.
